Good areas
Hi Jooles
I am from Adelaide (lived there 32 years), but have come over to UK a couple of months ago to experience life OS for a year or two (who knows).
I could name a few bad areas, but there are huge tracts of "middle class" suburbs - what will be a good area will depend on the importance to you of factors like:-
Proximity to work, beach, schools, the city, shopping areas, cafe and restaurant strips, etc and what you can afford. Adelaide has been referred to as a 20 minute city (supposedly you can get from anywhere to anywhere in 20 minutes), but even Adelaide has a peak hour and because the metro area is squeezed between the sea and the hills, the sprawl from north to south is approaching 80 kilometres (50 miles)
I would be looking along the coast (west) from Hallett Cove in the south through Marino, Seacliff, Brighton, Hove, Somerton Park, Glenelg, West Beach, Henley Beach, Grange, Tennyson, Semaphore and some of the immediately adjacent suburbs to these. Coasal property hasd become quite expensive. Other than that, some of the inner metro suburbs are nice and are going through quite a renovation boom with beautiful old houses being done up.
Without getting personal, it would be nice to know you requirement for number of bedrooms etc. Some of the hills suburbs have become quite popular since a new freeway and tunnel made access easier - Mount Barker is becoming quite large - think country location, but 30 minute drive from city.
Also, Adelaide's public transport is poor - it is a car city.
Happy to help further if required.
