need 25000 AUS Dollars to get into adelaide

my self and my partner have just started to apply for SIR for adelaide, and have heard of a new rule that you need 25000 AUS dollars to get in. This has stopped us in our tracks as you need to show you have this when you apply for state sponsorship. Does anyone know anything about this? and has any one got accepted if you can;t quite meet this amount? any help would be greatly appreciated.

on another note can anyone give us any advice about moving there as a young couple, what the nightlife is like etc?

and any info on getting a job as a graphic designer?

sorry, 300 questions at once!! We are new at this!

Thanks
Lis and rich

Hi Lisa and Rich, Sorry this posting is a little late - but I have only just seen it and we have only just found out that myself and my wife may now have to settle in SA. I myself am a Graphic Designer and have done a little research already into the prospective design job market in SA and there seems to be loads of design and print companies around the Adelaide regions. Finally to answer your question regarding the 250k AUD I am not aware of this, except you can choose to declare that you have this amount of money on one of the SIR Visa forms but I think this only comes into effect if you fall short of the required point mark on your skills test.

Have you had your skills assessed by the Australian authority yet???

“The Australian immigration system is points based. If your occupation is on the country’s Migration Occupation in Demands List, you get bonus points and your application is fast-tracked,” said Oonagh Baerveldt, spokesperson, Australian Visa Bureau.

“There are 80 occupations on the list at the moment. The list changes depending on where the labour shortages are in the Australian economy,” said Baerveldt. “Boom areas in the Australian economy include mining, housing and medical services and support, so you see those reflected on the current list.”

The points threshold for an Australian visa vary anywhere from 70 points to 120 points and for some sponsored visas, no points at all. The Australian Government is currently awarding 10 ‘extra’ points to applicants who are willing to live in a regional area, effectively lowering the points level to 100 for the skilled regional visa.

“Most people aim to score the maximum number of points so they are eligible for the Skilled Independent subclass 136 visa. That visa allows holders to live and work anywhere in Australia, in any occupation. You need 120 points to be eligible for the 136,” said Baerveldt.

The Australian visa application process is done in two parts; a skills assessment and application lodgement. At present, the process is taking anywhere from 12 to 18 months depending on the complexity of the application.

“There are several different visa streams available to British nationals. But, the fist step is finding out if you have the points to qualify. If you’re among the 40 percent of Brits looking to go to Australia, visit http://www.visabureau.com and take our online points test for Australia. The assessment is free and you can try with your details or your partner’s to see who has the most points.”

The Australian Government is looking for an upper threshold number of 144,000 migrants in 2006-2007. Of the 97,500 of those who will be deemed ‘skilled’ it’s likely almost 20,000 will be British nationals. In 2004-2005 Britain provided the largest percent of skilled migrants to Australia, with 18,200 making the one way trip.

hi, me and my partner are moving to adelaide on a SIR visa next jan and we got told we need to take at least £14,000. We didnt need to prove we had it, we just said we had a house and they said ok.

I got passed on my assessment even though i dont qualify for any specific job!

Get assessed then go for a consultation, all will become clear....well almost!

Hi, It may pay you to open a bank account now in Adelaide and stick a few dollars in. When i came here and applied for a mortgage i was told i had not been a bank member for 12 months.I dont know what the situation is these days. Still got the loan but it meant a lot of running around, im sure you will not regret coming here as long you remember your family is only a phone call away and you will make new friends.
Good luck.
