Thats awful. But when you consider the number of people who go diving each year and never even see a shark. Just comes as a reminder to us all that Australia has its dangers. Having said that hubby has gone off to work in London again - and we all know that has its dangers.

In the last 3 years - 7 children have been knocked down in front of my daughters school, 3 of them killed, the other 4 seriously hurt, one will be disfigured for life.

There is danger all around, but you can't let that stop you living your life

A lot of people make a big deal out of shark attacks, snakes, crocodiles, spiders . . . you name it!
In reality, you hardly see a snake from one year to the next, you seldom see a spider, never see a shark and there are no crocs in South Australia!
If you base your judgements on that sort of probability putting you away, then you'd better not drive your car, go beyond your front door or a hundred other things in life.
It all needs to be put into a proper perspective to see it in relation to the "big picture".

Just watched the seven o'clock news and they never mentioned anything. If there had been a shark attack it would have been on there as shark attacks are big news over here.

Hi ya Mrs Tinbasher
l was thinking same as you - looking at papers online then realised original date of Post/Thread started - Aug 2005, so looks like this thread has been resurrected

When we were in Oz earlier in year and spoke about sharks to locals, they just laughed at us and said you are way more likely to have an accident on the way to the beach than get attacked by a shark and that it is not considered a problem by Ozzies. This l guess is born out by the fact that any attack is big news in oz too. Is that what you have found?

Lyn x :)

Hiya All

We were in Oz in 2005 when the man was killed by the shark.
He was diving and his dive buddy saw him being taken, thats how they know it was a shark attack.
It did make the national news as we were in Brisbane at the time and it was on the tv.

My OH and eldest son had been diving on The Barrier Reef a few days before !!!

Oooh err Sam, glad it didnt put you off!
While we were over there earlier in year there was this story and pics bout bloke who had been diving cple of k's out and got half swallowed by one of the buggers and managed to clout it or something and it spat him out - seriously! Some people in oz were saying it didnt quite add up though !?! Was also story bout lady and dog both being had - must have been one hungry critter that day!

Yes your right about the shark attack in 2005. My aussie mate who lives in Gleneg told me about this , the guy that was taken by the shark was one of her friends!. He was surfing off the back of a boat with a group of his friends and the shark came up and got him , all his friends on the boat saw everything. Terrible.
