I have got a connection with someone in a recruitment company but i have no idea where the best , cheapest and safest places to live in sydneywould be wondering if anyone can help. Ideally im looking to share with another one or two females, i will not have a car so relying on public transport,
Feeling really nervous as not long til i get there and looking for some advise and help plus a few more contacts.

Sydney is spread out - not knowing in which suburb you will be working - and taking Public transport - so can you pass on some more information

I arrived 5 weeks ago, having spent 6 months here last year and a couple of years here over the last 20 years. You wont regret it.
Accomodation is hard to find though you may find it easier if you are willing to share - I'm renting in Paddington, an inner Eastern Suburb, about a 30 minute walk to the CBD and I was lucky as only had to stay in a hostel for 3 weeks before finding this place. I got a one-bed apartment for $380/week but in Australia the tenant doesnt pay water rates or council tax.
For sharing you could try the Gumtree website but dont part with any money until you've seen the place. The Sydney Morning Herald (and associated Domain website) also has sharing as does www.realestate.com.au. If you are looking to stay in a hostel initially I know a couple of reasonable places with single rooms for about $300/week.
The public transport system is pretty good and not that expensive but gets very busy at rush hour. If you live at the Eastern Beaches such as Bondi, Bronte, Clovelly, Maroubra you will be reliant on the buses. A lot of newcomers live in the Eastern Suburbs ie between the city and the beaches or in Manly - the beach but a ferry ride from the City. The west has much cheaper housing but isn't generally considered the most exciting place to live (no offense to anyone who may live there!) although a number of businesses are setting up there. Areas around the city that are quite trendy are Pyrmont - near Darling Harbour and I think Glebe is also now in vogue. Newtown is an inner west suburb that also now has a strong cafe culture. Surry Hills and Darlinghurst are other inner Eastern Suburbs if you want to live nearer to the city than the beach.
Good luck and you are doing the right thing.

Have you any idea where abouts your going to be working?? There are a few good websites for sharing. Make sure you go and look at them all though, because some will sound a lot nicer than they are and meeting who you are going to live with is also good, i saw some horrible places and some not so nice people. I've only been here 2 months, but if you want any advise, i'd be happy to help.

New To Sydney...
Hi there,
I've just passed my 8th year in Sydney, so know my way around pretty well. Let me know if you'd like to meet up for a coffee/chat.
Not sure where you'd be based, but I can certainly help with Eastern Suburbs/CBD advice.
kind regards
Kathy

Hi Stacy - welcome to Sydney!
Gosh, I don't know Roselands at all (to be honest, I know very little of Sydney outside of the Eastern Suburbs, a bit of Manly and the CBD (typical Pom, I suppose!).
What sort of thing would you like to know? I can answer questions by email or, if you like, we could meet in the city for coffee at the weekend? [I've got a few things on, but I'm sure we could meet up, if you like?
