Socialising & Get TogethersIf you're looking to meet up with like minded people emigrating to Oz or want to arrange an event in Oz, please post details here.
Originally from Bromley in Kent, been here for 4 months and we are finding it difficult meeting new people and making friends - anybody up to meeting up for a night out on the Mandurah Foreshore 29th/30th March ? Lonely Acacia
Not going to be of much help I'm afraid! but if you can hold out till the end of the year, we will be moving to Mandurah! We lived in Brisbane before for a year and returned to the UK - mainly because of having no friends! I'm quite happy with my own company, but not all of the time!!! Are you on your own, or do you have a hubby/partner/kids? There are plenty of people on here to make friends with, so don't worry, you won't be on your own for long!
I'm sure that when we eventually finish our house and sell and come over, you will be introducing me to all of your new circle! Look forward to it
Take care - Lynn x

Thanks for all the replies. My partner & I are living in Silver Sands(mainly holiday homes, but close to the beach). We have both found it difficult finding work, thought they needed people! I've got something in the mean time and partner's started his own computer bussiness from home. Look forward to making contact when you all come over - we could have BBQ, between the fly & mozzie seasons!(they have been terrible this year). My mobile is 0449560725 when you arrive.
Accaia
Dear Acacia - sorry to hear you are having trouble finding new friends though I am sure there are others on this website who live in Mandurah. We are in Waikiki, 20 minutes north of Mandurah but as retirees probably not in the same age group as you. However, we have been to the last two meet ups in Perth and enjoyed them very much with Ali and Janette being particulary helpful and friendly. There are lots of others here in Secret Harbour, Port Kennedy, Warnbro who are not too far away from you, perhaps you could try and link up with some of them.
I have joined a centre which offers a large amount of activities - albeit for the over 55's! Do you have any interests or hobbies you could look at joining? I wish you luck - just hang in there, it will be worth it. We just love WA.
Hi Cheryl, Thanks for the leads - this meet-up is this through 'Proms in OZ' ? I'm 45, better half is 42 and joined a Wildflower Society, but they meet up in the week when I'm working. I am planning on finding a group to do volunteer work in the environment(dunes/forests) on my days off, so will meet people there. If you are ever in Mandurah and keen on a cuppa, or outing give us a shout. 0449560725 - Marilyn(must go and top it up as it's just run out of credit)
Hello Marilyn - I would be pleased to take you up on your offer of a cuppa when next in Mandurah. What work do you do? Luckily I am retired - ex-medical secretary at Barts in London which I loved. I am sure you would be welcome as a volunteer - isn't there a wildlife centre somewhere hereabouts and what about an animal welfare centre (K-9 in Mandurah I think).
Only recently I was sitting on a bench at the Rockingham Shopping Centre eating some non-fat chips!! and got chatting to a lady doing the same - it turned out she was just about to undergo chemotherapy for lymphoma and didn't have a relative or close friend who would be visiting her - so here I am volunteering to help out where needed and visiting her for cups of tea. You really don't know what might be round the corner.
Anyway - I will try and give you a call soon, all the best, Cheryl
My family and I have only joined pomsinoz today. We are going over to Oz at the end of May and are looking at settling in the Mandurah region. I am 42, my wife is 41 and we have 2 children aged 12 and 10. I hope its not too difficult to find work - I am a carpenter/cabinet maker. Holiday home by the beach sounds good - would love to meet up.
We live in Mandurah & work in Rockingham we regularly arrange meet ups for new migrants via our web site.
