Socialising & Get TogethersIf you're looking to meet up with like minded people emigrating to Oz or want to arrange an event in Oz, please post details here.
i emigrated here ten years ago from lancashire, it took me a while to settle but i now LOVE it and would'nt go back to uk. I live in the gold coast, if there is anything i can do to help anyone, let me know. I wish there was something similar to this site when i came here it would have certainly made things a lot easier!! xx
There's not much left there now it's a shame! We are looking to come out to OZ but from reading threads on here realise we need to re-train here first as we have 2 boys so student visa not an option.
I still take the kids to the illuminations at Blackpool this year was a Doctor Who theme!!
hi, love to know more about where you live.......particularly if there would be jobs for nurses.....but apart from that tell me and hubby about your lifestyle etc...please!
hiya, i'm sure nurses will always be needed any where. Here on the gold coast there is (near me in arundel) 2 private hospitals and a public one, they are starting to build a new public hospital in 2009 and it should be finished in 2012, looking at the artist impression it is going to be excellent. There are lots of private medical facilities that employ nurses, iy depends what area you want to work in. The lifestyle is laid back and easy, as are the people. It takes me 10 mins to get to a surf beach, the one i go to is across the road from the versace hotel, near to sea world. I would advice anyone to come and give it a go, it's not easy, i think i will always miss my friends and family back in the uk, but i would never go back.
what are you re training as? apparently hairdressers are needed, i've no idea why as there is one on virtually every corner. i was talking to an english girl a few weeks ago, and they came out because of her husbands job, he lays laminte and wooden floors. i think if you can find an employer to sponser you it is an easier way to come out. we came out on an independant visa (i think thats what its called).
My husbands gonna retrain as electrician i think but is a first aid teacher at mo. also teaches swimmin and lifeguard TA, not sure whether there is any way he could go down this route. seems to be lots of confusing info as wot to do 4 the best. I work in a pharmacy and am doing courses here at mo that would hopefully help me get a job out there. saw on one website quite a few jobs in different areas. basically would do anything to get there!!! As for being hairdresser, i'd be more likely to scalp them lol
