Anyone out there near N/E Melbourne !!

Hi all
I haven't posted on here in a while - well since we arrived here in Melbourne
We arrived in mid october after a very stressful time - as I'm sure most of you are going thru.
Managed to get somewhere permenant to live, got the boys in school quickly, hubby started his job, I found some shops!!!.
Hubby seems to be making friends at work etc.
Kids have settled in school I asked them to collect nubmers etc for the hols so that they could meet up with people but they seem to be reluctant to contact anybody - 14 yr old is the worst doesn't want to get in contact with anyone. Other 2 not so bad. All they want to do is hang around the house all day on the computer or xbox. In the UK they used to go up to the park and kick a ball around but here they again are reluctant unless I play evil mum and shout and scream a lot to get them to go out. - I hate doing that - although it s a great stress reliever!!
ME - I'm fed up, lonely and missing my friends and my job. - I was the one who was desperate to get here, I was the one who did hubby's skills assessment, I did the visa application etc, I organised the house sale, and pretty much everything to do with our move out here, Don't get me wrong I would not go home for anything but I failed to realise just how much I would miss working and especially my friends and company in the day - there is only so much shopping you can do.
What I'm asking is - IS THERE ANYONE OUT THERE NEARISH TO ME WHO FEELS THE SAME AND FANCIES A BIT OF A MEET UP/CHAT ?
p.s. - I'm not always this miserable just feeling it more today.

Hi Heather,

Are you planning to go back to work in Melbourne?

Know what you mean about there being only so much shopping you can take (and I am a serial shopaholic - saw a tshirt yesterday that said "Shopasaurus Rex" which made me giggle!).

Sometimes it can be hard, especially when you feel like you are stuck in a routine of home-school-shops and feel you can't go out there and meet people (not saying you feel like this but I certainly did). I had this problem for ages in Singapore and it suddenly hit me that it was ME that was the problem and not everyone else. I started attending coffee mornings, volunteering and making an effort to meet my neighbours, which all produced conversations, some of which led to making friends. It can be quite daunting at first but the more you do it, the easier it gets. Could you organise a BBQ for OH's workmates and partners/your kid's classmates plus parents? It could be a nice informal icebreaker!

Am planning on being in Melbourne by March/April of this year and hope to start a coffee morning group or something with PiOers! Will possibly have to start a shopaholics' club too....

Hi Heather
New to this as thought I'd just have a quick look at one of these sites and saw your post and thought I'd join and reply! Moved here in August but only just got in our own house in December as been living with my husband's family whilst we found somewhere. He's Aussie but I'm from the UK, we met here 10 years ago and have been over there ever since. But since having our son we decided to move back. I don't think we're far from you, we're in Watsonia North.
Been majorly missing my family and friends too - especially my mum as our son is only 13 months and I just want her to spend time with him but she can't - we have to wait until their visit this christmas - so long to wait!
I know what you mean about the husband's going off to work and being at home, it's the same for me except I have our little one to look after which keeps me busy! I know a couple of other poms here through family and friends but I do have the advantage of my hubbie's family all being here obviously. But it's still not the same as your own!
I think you'll find it easier once your boys start to get more friends and socialise more with them and then you'll meet some more parents.
Where abouts in the UK are you from?
Look forward to chatting some more.....

Hi Heather - I know how YOU feel. Although my circumstances are different. I live in South Morang - just up the road. I've just been made redundant from my job... so if you want to meet up I would love to.
