Anyone in melbourne? Need to get a social life

Hi Guys,

Me and my hubby are moving to melbourne on 15th Dec and it seems scarey to have no social life or friends.
We will be living in a serviced appt in melbourne for 8 weeks until we find our feet and then i think we will be moving to the western suburbs (sanctuary lake i think)
If anyone is close by a meet would be great we are a down to earth couple that likes to sociallise. no children as yet but only been married for 2 and a half years so plenty of time yet!!

Would love to hear some responses.

Take care
Gail

Good luck with the move.

My fiance and i moved over in April, also on 457 visas. Would love to meet some more people, so up for a drink when you arrive.

What are you and your husband doing work wise over in Melbourne?

Sarah

Gail,

We have been here over 12 weeks now and if you need a beer - give me a shout. We live in Hampton, Bayside (south east of the city - around 20 mins on train from CBD). Me and the wife have been married for 5 years and don't have kids as well.... (we are both 35).

If you need any help and advice then send me a message and I can advise not what to do (from experience!!!!!!!)

Cheers
Dan

Hi Guys,

Yes that sounds great,
our flights are booked and we will be arriving in melbourne on 16th December at 9.45pm. our appartment will be on russell street (havent a clue where that is but its apparently in the centre by the shops and bars) I havent got a job at the moment but my husband will be working in west melbourne, he makes computer games and is coming over to run a games studio.( I am 25 and Tony is 38 )
He will be going into work on 19th December for 2 days then on the friday they have the company works xmas party which i am invited to!!! ( havent got a clue what i am suppose to wear ect as i think english dress sence is so different, so sarah you could maybe give me a few tips on that)
Then they break up until 2nd January so we will have time together to figure melbourne out over the holiday period.
I am looking forward to it now, but not looking forward to the goodbye's to my mum as she is so upset i am leaving.
Dan i woulld love to know what NOT to do and your experiances because im the type of person to do anything stupid!! haha,

Would be lovely to arrange to meet up sometime over the holidays maybe the 6 of us?

Let me know your thoughts

Take care
Gail

Hi Gail

If our buyer ever comes back from holiday and exchanges on our house, we'll be out in Melbourne by the end of January. Although I've lived in Sydney before (what a terrific time!), I'm nervous too about actually making any friends... Anyhoo. We have two small kids and will probably be living in Eastern 'burbs, but what's a few kilometers after travelling 17,000 of them!

Wish us luck on the house.... I'm desperate to get back!

Well i'm 34 and the wife is 29, both Welsh and been out here for 4 yrs. Lived in Richmond, then 2 yrs in Seaford before moving out here in the West June '06. No kids (2 dogs - children substitutes.)
We're good friends with several other Brit families in the area, we live in The Greens nr Sanctuary Lakes shopping centre on Windsong Way. We have top English friends within 50 yards of us and also in Sanctuary Lakes and Lincoln Heath estates. Nearly all our friends have young families, you'll be in your oils. ;)

I'll pm 'ya my contact details.
