Socialising & Get TogethersIf you're looking to meet up with like minded people emigrating to Oz or want to arrange an event in Oz, please post details here.
Hi everyone. Only just found this website after being in OZ for over 2 years. Ive joined so many of these things but none have been what i expected, am hoping this one is different. I am 28 year old female nurse living on the gold coast. If anyone wants to get in touch feel free. Thanks very much.
Welcome to an absolutely fantastic forum, you will love it on here, i tried lots of others and not a patch on this one, you will get loads of information, we all have a laugh too and let our hair down, specially on the FNCC (Friday Night Chit Chat), basically we all go in the chat room on the forum on a friday night to have a laugh and get to know each other more and you will love it.
We are all batty or are now after being on here lol
We are all friendly, gentle & there is always someone to answer your questions. I am going to be making poms t-shirts too so you will be welcome to pyrchase one when they are done if you like.
We have made loads of friends on here and are now like family thats how welcome we have been made so hope you like it too and ask us all anything at all no matter how stupid it may sound as we have probably ask worse lmao
Hi lovely to meet a new member hope you really enjoy this forum everyone is so helpful and friendlyI have got a few questions hope you don't mind. Im a nurse and Im just completing the application form for registration in Australia. Did you have to give the contents of your UK nursing course like hours, practical and therory. I don't really know how to go about that as Portsmouth Uni where I trained has stopped doing the adult course (project 2000) I have my PIN no. (in UK) and am reg. for adult and childrens I just dont know how much info they want. I was thinking about doing it when I arrive (Coffs Harbour) I have my PR visa so dont need sponsor but not sure. What do you think. Also what is nursing like there and are there any major differences. Sorry so many questions when you've just joined. Welcome to this forum as above, its so friendly you'll love it. Gilly
Thanks to tony and lynne and gilly for your replies, you've made me feel very welcome. In response to your questions gilly. Yes unfortunately I did have to supply the contents of my UK course, they want to know everything about you including what you had for breakfast this morning. I'd have thought your university would have to have something on file about the course even though I know that they've phased out the project 2000, you may get away with just providing evidence of being a practising nurse for the last 5 years (if you've got 5 years worth that is). I had only been registered for about 3 months when i applied so I had to give them that information. I had only 9 months experience as an RN when i first got out here so Im sure you will find it no problem finding work and getting used to it. It really isn't that much different, the basics are the same just some of the equipment and the name of certain drugs can be different but it doesn't take long to pick it up. I am now working as a clinical nurse which is the equivalent of an E-grade in the U.K and ive only got my diploma not a degree, there are just more opportunities to develop yourself here than over there.
I am looking forward to meeting you all and I will definetly give the friday night chit chat a go. Anymore questions gilly let me know, as you can see I like to type.
Thanks guys...

I had to give information from my college and I was in the same boat as you! Course not running any more, College changed name! What you do is go to the college of nursing and get them to do a transcript of your course. Everything that immigration/ANC need will be in it. Its really easy, request it in writing, pay the 36 pounds I think it was and away you go!
Im an RN working in a retirement village in Sinnamon PArk in Brisbane. PM/Email if u wanna know anything and we can chat!

Sounds like you guys landed about the same time as me, i arrived here in january 2005. How have you both found it here? Ive struggled to meet people on the gold coast, a lot of people you meet here are either just on holiday or are here temporary. Some people who are from the gold coast tend to be a bit plastic fantastic, and although ive met tons of people ive never really been able to get a good friendship off the ground. Dont get me wrong, i agree with a lot of people on this site that most aussies ive met are extremely friendly, ive never sat at a bus stop without somebody starting up a conversation with me but ive realised that there are very people who are actually interested in making new friends, they already have a group of friends and as a single person it's hard infiltrate an already established group of people. It doesn't help either that i met someone 2 months into being here so i clinged to them for 2 years without building that social network that you desperately need to make it here, now that relationship is over ive found myself back at the beginning. Dont know how it is in Brisbane for meeting folks?
