Isolated in Ferntree gully, soon to be isolated in Clyde

Recommended Posts

Well, I never imagined i would be posting a message of this kind, yet here I am.

We (hubby 35 and me 36 with to two girls 19 and 11), arrived in Melbourne in March 2011. Being a family we have focused all of our energy in getting settled, earning the cash and getting the girls into school and education. However, we have found that 10 months later we are really feeling the isolation.

Outside of work and with the school holidays it has become obvious that there is only us. Dont get me wrong, family is great and so is Oz, it was defo the best move to make. However, without some outside friendships (for us all) i am extremely worried that we will all turn out to be the crazy Poms that sit in rocking chairs on the porch try to play banjo's and wave at random strangers as they walk by. (we dont really do this...yet).

I suppose what i'm shouting out to anyone in the area is, if your finding yourself in the same situation or understand how hard the isolating is, we would love to say hello or even meet up with some like minded peoples.

My hubby is ex military (15 years +) and now a heavy vehicle diesel mechanic, i work with children my eldest is a hairdressing apprentice and my youngest is a social creature that loves school and horse rides.

thanks for listening,

Possibly speak soon.

Shell and Mick.

Hi Shell and Mick

there is no need to feel isolated once you are in Clyde there is a great bunch of expats around Berwick/Cranbourne that we can get you in touch with.

Hello! We are in cranbourne east, on the edge of Clyde. We should get our rocking chairs together & both look like crazy women! Hehe.

Weve been here a while but with work life, our social life has suffered and were pretty isolated too. We're both in our 30s and have a 6 yr old son. Weekends and Eve's are good for us.

where in Clyde are you?

Wow....Thanks guys for the super quick posts. I was actually checking other links when i noticed 2 replies. Brownie points to you both :0)

We are currently living in ferntree gully but are hopefully signing the dotted line to a house in the clyde area, meaning we would be there around Christmas. We are not the kind of people that worry about a bit of a drive so are not faised by meeting up in the Cranbourne/Berwick area. I felt that rocking chairs on porches was a pretty fair description of crazy isolated people lol and clearly noticed/understood.

If your want to chat to your other halfs and want to get in touch, inbox me. I look forward to hearing from you's.

There is a meet up in Mornington on 3 March. Using Eastlink not that long a drive for you. Also when you are in Clyde its not such a long drive to Mornington and the Peninsula and there are a lot of Expats around the area as well. Have a look at the thread on here or this one from Life in Victoria

Hi, I can understand totally. My family moved into Scoresby just over a year ago (just down the road from Ferntree Gully). My daughter is 21, my sons 18 & 14.They have a good set of friends. Tony & myself are both 40:rolleyes: (still hurts to say out loud). We have a few friends but i still feel the isolation. i miss being able to just pop into family or friends for a cuppa. Worse still is that when we moved i didn't drive, so was so much worse! I now have my P's, so a lil better. Polly

Hi Shell

I've just posted a similar thread as we've also been here nearly a year and feel exactly the same!

My partner is 47 and I'm 44 and we have a 14 year old daughter who loves school but is very lonley out of it.

We are in Wantirna, which I don't think is too far.

You probably have tons of friends by now....but if not....maybe get in touch..?

Hi Shell & Mick,

I've just registered with PomsInOz and just noticed your post. We're in the Cascades On Clyde estate, so just over the over road (literally) from Clyde North. I didn't realise there are so many poms around this area. We've been in Australia for 4 1/2 years but have only been in this area for the last 2 years.

We're all in the same boat, so we should arrange a get-together(like Ratchet said) and chat about us making this crazy move over here etc and see who can rock the fastest!

Cheers,

Peter
