We are actually leaving for Oz on Tues, does anyone know how much money we can carry with us on the plane? we understand that we can take up to 10,000 AUD or the equivalent each but does this includes children as well? can we just take sterling to change up in Oz as uk exchange rate is not so good.

Has anyone done this?

Thanks for any advice:confused:

No limit jo as long as it is declared. [unless the PIPL don't want you causing a run on the B of E!]

Currency

There is no limit to the amount of currency you can bring in or out of Australia. However, you must declare amounts of A$10,000 or more in Australian currency or foreign equivalent. If asked by Customs you must also fill in a Bearer Negotiable Instruments (BNI) form if you're carrying promissory notes, travellers cheques, personal cheques, money orders or postal orders.

But instead of all that loot, why not open an account, put it in over there and then you walk into a bank here and get a card and you're set.

ANZ - Contact us

ANZ are as good as any and you should be able to do it Monday if not online.

Exchange rate is not going to be any different whether over there or here and you'll likely even get a better exchange reate, even if you leave it in your existing bank and then do an electronic transfer into the Australian Bank.
