Guest guest17301
It's very similar to the UK. Some things are cheaper some more expensive but all in all it pretty much balances out..maybe Perths ever so slightly cheaper-depends how you live. Guest Hannah
Hi Baz, We are in Perth and have found some things quite expensive here. Generally your utility bills are similar to the UK but food shopping and eating/drinking out can be expensive. A pint of local beer will set you back between $8.50 and $9.50. Thats over £4 a pint!! If you want to eat out in a half decent restaurant it will cost around $180-$200 inc wine. Also, mortgage rates are much higher here than the uk so you need to bear that in mind if you need a mortgage. Also the banks seem to charge you for everything inc getting an on screen bank balance from the ATM............. Generally though, if you like to go out often it will probably be more expensive than the uk but if youre happy to stay in more it will work out cheaper.... Hope this helps a bit Steve

Agree about the banks they charge for everything! Dont eat out if you want to save money. Get some friends round and eat in! Nice little Italian restaurant near us is nice, cost us $70 for 2, you take your own wine! $200 sounds excessive! Think i would want a limo at their expense for that? Maybe im just tight? One thing is the same where ever you are; by the time you've paid all the bills there will be pittance to spend on yourself.
Guest
Where we are living on the gold coast you can get a pretty decent night out 2-3 course meal and a few beers or a bottle for alot less than was quoted up there, maybe perth is like a different world! we go to nice places too on hope island and sanctuary cove and find it cheaper than where we lived in England, quality of food seems better too, having a coffee out is more decent than at home also and around the same price, hope that helps! Guest The Ropey HOFF
Hi everyone it is swings and roundabouts. If you are going to live in Australia try to ensure your wages are at least equal to the uk based on at least $2 to £1. I know this isn't the current exchange rate so don't be fooled into thinking that if you earn say £50,000 between you in the uk which equals $80,000 in Australia at present, you will find that it will be worth about £38,000. This is hard to follow, but up until a year ago, wages were almost identical based on a rate of $2.2. to the £1. We earn £60,000 at present and the wages from our jobs we have been offered are about $130,000, which is pretty close to $2.1 to the £1. But $130,000 to the current exchange rate is worth about £80,000 which is clearly not correct. Wines cheap 5 litres for £7 and its gorgeous. jim
