Mrswolf
Hi we are looking at moving to Adelaide on a skilled work visa (permenant residency) and we have been told that my husband, who is a painter and decorator, will have to take an English test. Has anybody done this already? If so what does it entail? Thanks in advance.
Wooba
You don't HAVE to take it if you're British, but you'll very likely need it to get enough points. There's several different types of tests, but I took the PTE one as it was quick and fairly easy.
Mrswolf
Thanks for the response. Do you take it at your local college? We are very literally starting from the very beginning of the process and hoping to avoid using an agent where possible
Guest
It's at a test centre http://pearsonpte.com/ The alternative is IELTS https://www.ielts.org/
VERYSTORMY
Which ever test he chooses make sure he revises and prepares properly. Failures are common.
Dragonflygecko
IELTS or Pearson PTE-A. Depends what he feels more comfortable with hand writing in a large hall, or typing on a computer inter timed constrictions. I chose PTE it took me 3 attempts. Both times I lost out by 1 mark in 1 area and it was really frustrating. Key is knowing the format and where the highest scoring lies. Lots of revision and dedication!
