Martinbjulieb
Hi, has anyone got any recommendations for insurance for shipping our furniture etc? The removals company one is way too expensive and I have contacted one other company that is mentioned on here but they do not insure jewellery or watches etc and their vehicle insurance is very limited. Any advice please? Thanks[emoji4] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
bristolman
We have done a few major moves over the years and never had insurance. To be honest if a few things get broken it's doubtful it would outweigh the cost of the insurance. We have never had anything broken, apart from the odd glass of two. Martinbjulieb
Thanks, but it is more the complete loss that I am worried about rather than actual breakages! My husband is shipping his motorbike so that definitely needs insurance. Obviously some things are irreplaceable anyway so no amount of insurance will cover those items! I am sure that everything will arrive intact but there is that small part of me that says "what if"..... Guest
Going the other way, UK to Aus Letton Percival or IYM get recommended a great deal. Its meant to be better to insure with an independent rather than shipping companies own. Check out Letton Percival and see if they cover Aus to UK http://www.lettonpercival.co.uk/overseas-removals-insurance/ Get a quote link might be useful. bristolman
We have shipped motorbikes most times and although we did think occasionally about total loss it just didn't seem like much higher of a risk. Best thing is to Google it and just get in touch with a few companies just for the bike.

Que Sera Sera
Has anyone ever experienced total loss? I've never ever heard of it, but I suppose it could happen. We had a few plates broken that's all. I think we can be over insured to be honest. I know when people have claimed for the odd item they've found it nigh on impossible to get back from the insurers so that's also something to think about. As you didn't mention the company name it may be Letton Percival is who you are talking about anyway but they are certainly worth contacting if not. It may be you will need separate insurance. You are right to consider the 'total loss' scenrario - an amazing number of containers are lost overboard every year. http://www.ship-technology.com/features/featurecargo-overboard-4517226/ Okay small in terms of total containers but I certainly would have the insurance! rammygirl
We used Letton Percival and needed to claim for damaged goods. They were efficient and paid up promptly. Most shippers do not recommend packing valuable jewellery. I took mine in hand luggage. Having said that all the one way travel insurance has very low limits for valuables. Stupid considering that most will carry jewellery, laptops cameras etc. We shipped a car separately and got specialist insurance for that, can't remember who with but used Iron Lady imports who post on here to co ordinate it all. When using the insurance of the shipping company it can be the case that claims can be tough. No end of times on here I've read this being the case. Using an independent insurance will see claims settled without the fuss. Some people have had a fair bit of damage to their shipping so a decent insurance isn't a bad thing.
