Will never fly Emirates again.

This may seem like a rant but I want to make everyone aware of the terrible service I have received recently from what was one of the better airlines.

My family and I fly Emirates regularly (3 times a year Perth to London return) when I purchased my recent flights and paid for them I was horrified to see that they now charge extra to reserve seats. It is in very small print on their site in a very obscure place. To book my 4 seats it cost and extra $544 for the 4 flights. Disgusting and they would not budge. This puts their price up in line with Singapore who are in my opinion, are far better airline.

So we booked our recent trip, booked and paid for the seats and selected flights that involved the A380. It's a much more comfy and quiet plane with wifi etc. We left Perth on the the 19th January. The packs that are promised for the kids were not available, there were no hot towels and the food was below average. When we landed in Dubai as we touched down, icy cold water poured all over my young children and flooded the galley from a faulty air conditioning unit. Both my boys had to wear a jacket and blanket for the entire second flight as they were soaked. These things happen but they were not interested. Second flight they got ther packs etc.

we were then informed that the flight had changed on return from Dubai to Perth to the smaller 777 aircraft and the seats that we had been ripped off with had been changed.

i called to ask to change flights so we could fly on the a380 as we had paid more for the particiular flights. I understand the terms state that aircraft can change but they want me to pay $1900 to change to a later flight that day. This is disgusting as they have changed it in the first place. Was on hold for 40 minutes....they simply didn't care less. We have experienced 8 hour delays previously, faulty toilets and forced overnight stays in Dubai cutting holidays short. The service has gone down hill fast...they have become too big to care about passengers and the service on board is terrible.

I for one will never book or fly wit them again. The extra charge for seats selection and rediculous charges to make changes to changes they have made have made me so angry. If I were you I would look at the other airlines before considering emirates. This is my opinion of course but for those of you that don't know of these policies, I would like to think I have saved somebody from making the same mistakes.

I agree that Singapore are a far better airline, I've flown with Emirates twice and would never fly with them again either.

I hate the 777, but they are all changing these to 3x4x3.

I like Emirates as I'm close to Gatwick - and Heathrow can be a pain.

So I'll stick with them until I have a bad experience.

Your experience sounds bad, though I have flown over a million miles with them and never had a bad flight (I used to commute for work Perth to Tanzania via Dubai. My only ever criticism of them was that I am not a fan of Dubai airport.

Sometime you actually save money flying with a more dependable airline like Singapore by paying slightly more for your fare.

Sounds like you had an appalling experience. I personally stopped flying them a few years ago.

We are traveling with Emirates in March and have around 30 times , only had 1 poor flight as the staff were not interested in serving us which we found strange otherwise it's been very good. We have booked our seats at no cost for our flights in March .

When paying out good money you do expect a certain level of service which was not the case here,have you contacted them to complain not sure if it would get you anywhere to be honest but maybe worth a go.

In my experience, posting a scathing review on a company Facebook page often gives good results in terms of them trying to fix things for you.

I've flown Emirates several times and never a problem, then again I've never had a problem on any flights. I just sit there and hope it lands safely, that's all I ask of any airline.

We're flying Emirates in November....already regretting it! Lol! But it's too late now! As long as we get there - mission accomplished!

I have flown all major airlines many times around the world, and especially on the Perth/London route. They are all much of a muchness and that in part depends on the cabin crew on the flight. I have had bad flights with Qantas, Malaysian Airlines, Singapore Airlines, New Zealand Airlines, Air Canada and Emirates.

Having said that, I now usually fly Emirates from Perth to UK as my destination is close to Gatwick airport and it makes my journey so much easier on the UK leg not to have to navigate Heathrow, and then the M25/M23 horror, and then country lanes - all whilst jetlagged in a hire car.

International flights are what they are... getting you from one place to another... unless you are paying for Business or First Class, you just need to go with the flow!

We usually fly with Emirates and find they are very good. We put in a request not to fly with the Qantas double badged flights though because we find Qantas isn't very good on service. They are rude and seem to be disorganised.

All Emirates flights codeshare with Qantas you just have to make sure which one operates each sector when you book.Even domestic ozzie flights have emirates flight numbers on them.

Having been sworn at by Emirates crews, groped indecently by their security staff in dubai, and even told I should not be travelling alone but only with my husband, I avoid them like the deathstar and will only travel on the Qantas operated sectors.

We've also had approx 6 return UK - Australia flights with them and never found an issue. Enjoy Singapore Airlines as well, OH thinks their actual service is better.

You think SIngapore is a good airline?. Read between the lines what I am going to say. I may have some experience along the lines of getting a aircraft in the air.

Emirates on the other hand are multicultural in nature. employees come from all over the globe and encouraged by their management to excel, put in suggestions to make the airline more efficient and to better the coustemer experience . It is a young airline with  an amazing growth story, that will get better and better in years to come.  

All airlines are going through tough times, cutting costs services and charging for everything under the sun.

Emirates has a in flight entertainment system with a wopping big economy class screen and free wifi to go with and above all a extreamly safe carrier.Take it from me.

Qantas and Emirates codeshare. Everry flight has both airline codes. You need to go online and just see which airline operates which leg, but I promise you it is not easy to find EK operated flights all the way. Usually one leg or the other is QF.

And personally speaking I try hard to avoid the EK legs as their staff are often rude, opinionated and sexist (owing to the high ranking of men above women in the UAE). Never had an issue with QF staff.

have to say also if flying with kids, Singapore would win every time.

Emirates have also refused to serve me alcohol on an international flight (DXB-MEL)because I was a single woman and had no male escort. Almost unbelievable, but true. 

I've never flown to Oz with Emirates but have with etihad and Cathay both of whom were great! Flown Qantas, Singapore and Malaysian previously too, all been fine, though those ones were 5-10years ago. 

We tend to go with cheapest seats and avoiding Heathrow. Etihad are my current favourite. Great deals, no seat choice charge and great service.

How utterly ridiculous!! When was this and where were you flying to/from? I've flown by myself with Emirates three times UK - AUS and return and haven't experienced this .... maybe yet!!

DXB - MEL (thats Dubai - Melbourne) en route out from the UK, about 45 years ago I think, before the alliance with Qantas anyway. I had to insist they get the Purser and he told the girl not to be so stupid. She said it went against her religion.
