matt796
Hi. I have been offered a position as a Hair Stylist at a salon in Canberra. The offer was a 457 visa as the employer believed he was unable to sponsor me on a 187 RSMS. A helpful MARA agent on this forum believed he could. I have been to the ACT website which states that there are three streams to RSMS but all becomes a bit confusing. All I need to know is can I apply with the employers sponsorship for a 187 visa in the ACT. Any advice and if you are potentially interested in being my MARA agent then please contact me. Kind Regards
George Lombard
Hi Matt, I'm sure you'll get lots of PMs from potential agents but the issues aren't all that simple. The question of whether you can be sponsored now for an RSMS visa ultimately depends on whether the ACT government would support the application, and they have their own criteria. You would also need a skills assessment. This link might be interesting: https://www.acacia-au.com/ens-and-rsms-changes-the-losers.php . A 457 visa would bypass the ACT government involvement but does require the employer to meet criteria not required for the RSMS visa. matt796
Thank you George. The employer seems to think after 3 months I can apply to move from a 457 to a permanent visa. I would like to know as I would rather be on a permanent visa rather than a 457. The cost of private health care and the huge school fees won't make it worth while. I have completed Vetassess part 1 and need to book part 2 to finalise my skills trade test. I'll wait and see what the chances are of obtaining a PR as the employer has other sponsored staff at his Salon and uses a MARA agent in Canberra. Thanks again
George Lombard
Hi Matt, The employer is probably concerned that you'd do a runner, which is less of a risk with an RSMS visa as against ENS because of the specific RSMS cancellation provisions but still quite real. Hopefully the agent they use in Canberra is John Hourigan. Cheers, George Lombard
