Doctor in training applying for 189 visa - which category of SOL?

Recommended Posts

Hello

I was hoping for a bit of advice about a specific aspect of my application for PR in Australia.

Currently I am here on a 457 visa working as a Psychiatry Registrar in Sydney and intend to apply for PR via a 189 visa.

I'm not sure which SOL category my occupation falls into however - I originally thought (and have submitted an EOI for this option) it would be Medical Practitioners NEC - as I have not completed specialist training yet so would not be classified as a Psychiatrist.

However on some websites it suggests that the Psychiatrist category includes registrars in training like myself.

Would anyone be able to clarify this matter for me? I'm worried that if I submit an application but have the wrong skilled occupation I will waste my application fee !

Thanks

Sarah

My understating is that the requirement is skills assessment by appropriate college before you can apply. That's the case for RANZCR anyway. But then I kbow people who came here after house jobs who got PR despite not being finished training yet so it must be possible.

They could have got PR in many different ways, not involving a skills assessment of this type. They may have come on a different skill, as a dependent on a partner's skills visa, on a Spouse Visa - to name a few.

If you know them, ask them what visa they qualified for - and when, as rules change constantly.
