I always thought Nicki's bits were filmed somewhere like/ nr Cape Tribulation. ( I don't know that- it just looks similar).

We always watch it out of interest. Maybe how it's edited but sometimes it feels like the people judge the Aussie houses as if they are the only 3 houses available on the market. Surely people must go on real estate.com.au or domain to see what they could get within their budget. I've been looking on those sites for years! Lol!

Yeah definitely usually in North QLD. Probably put up in a nice resort in Port Douglas

The fascination with Australia and Australians will never go away for the British.

The desire will always be there.

What are we up ? Season 15 ?

My Sis-in-Law went on the Aus version of "Location location location" 3 years ago when she was struggling to find a house in the red hot Sydney Inner West market.......

I remember that episode (I think). Was your SIL recently recovered from a serious illness? If so, it was repeated very recently - possibly just last week.

Your SIL ended up with a great little house so I'm glad it worked out for her. Interesting that Veronica is not as nice in real life as she's portrayed though!

It is a long time since we filmed for this, in fact we were the first family and made the pilot episode so it was very 'play as you go' and a slightly different format to other shows,, and thats just what it was a relaxed, yet educational time, with fantastic, up for a laugh camera men, sound crew etc. Unlike now where you 'apply' ,back then, they approached us via our Visa Agent and we didnt have loads of time to decide if to go or to prepare but i am always up for a laugh and challenge so convinced hubby to say Yes,lo...

In the original we filmed, it was Nadia who was the presenter, in the revisited it was Nikki and both came across as friendly ,down to earth people, even more so when the cameras were off..

The show itself is edited to the hilt, its actually funny to watch back and yet intriguing how they can flick and swap footage around to protray what they want to protray at the time. They knew my fear / concerns of coming over here was creepy crawlies and leaving family and friends behind,,they really played on that, probably just to try and make good viewing,lol.. Thats what the show is about at the end of the day and i could laugh about things after id got over the initial tears and tantrums.

I am glad we did it, not only did it give me a chance to visit the country i was moving too before i actually moved (hubby did a whv a few years before we met so had an idea what awaited), but it gave us a great sneak peak at areas and offered the hubby the chance to meet potential future employers. Overal a fantastic experience and holiday that i would do again in a heartbeat.

I used to watch WDU but they are better at blocking people outside UK now so I can't be bothered. That lady who hosted the show began to irritate me after a while, so bland. I used to always wonder why they bothered with house prices given it takes most at least a year to get here and prices change so much over that length of time. Same with wages- though I guess they have to try and make it more interesting somehow.

I'm so immature, this made me giggle, makes her sound like she's filming something else entirely :biglaugh:

I do wish someone (researcher) would coach Nicki on how to pronounce names. Recently I heard Mand-er-ee for Mindarie and Fremantle is constantly spelt Freemantle and pronounced incorrectly.

I must admit, I'm not a fan of Nicki anyway so fast forward the boring inane chat inbetween seeing the family.

If I was ever on tv (heavens forbid!) I would go with the 'they can't edit what I don't say' which I'm sure would make very boring tv !

I wish they would be more upfront about visas and how they work. I realise they don't want to bore the socks off people but they really make it sound as though just anyone can walk in and ask for a job. I also wish they would occasionally do a prog. about older people considering moving to join offspring (being an older person looking to join offspring myself ...) I think it would be quite interesting to portray the difficult choices facing couples wantint to join their children but having to give up just about everybody else in the process. (I'd like a free week with my daughter )

I watched the same episode, where he'd go over, have less responsibility and basically get double what he was on in England. Which is why me and my now wife went on the programme! It was aired on 4th January and we went to Perth. We are still wanting to get to Australia at some point but we have just paid for our wedding so have to save up some money again. Did anybody on here watch our episode? Mathew and Phillipa :)

Just watched it. You'll be fine over here, although I'd look a bit closer at areas to live I think you'd find more affordable/comfortable places to live. The Australia answer was never in doubt!

On a more trivial note...does anyone know where Nicki Chapman films her part of the series? Looks amazing:wub:

I always assumed it was in front of a green screen in a studio with a fan blowing to give the impression of a nice sea breeze...

I saw a bit of one the other day and they asked the bloke what he was looking for in his ideal Aussie home. A pool? A sea view? A balcony?

No .... storage space apparently. Laughed, I did.

You jest, but storage space was one of our considerations (alongside a separate living area for visitors) when we realised how little space there is to hide your things in many Aussie houses - especially if you have ducted air conditioning which fills your loft with big silver tubes!

Has anyone noticed that more often than not....when the potential migrants go meet a fellow pom who has made the move successfully ....they are are Scottish. Maybe I'm imagining it?! Do Scots make more successful migrants I wonder??

I'd think most places are favourable to Scotland, they're just grateful to have moved!

What about the guy who was a mature student in the uk whilst his wife worked. They were moving to oz after realising they would be £31k better off a year once they moved ......

of course the programme glossed over the fact they were both going to be working in oz

so go from one job to two and double your income ........ well duh!

I find it hard to believe that everyone on the show would be better off financially in oz.

ive done 3 years in Sydney and the rest in the uk. I think things were pretty similar TBH in both countries for us. The show obviously converts everything to pounds which I suppose the general public need them to do and the rate now makes salaries look more than they are

but then again expenses and income are counted aren't they and everyone reckons they'd be £1000 plus a month better off in oz

I have seen episodes where the participants did discover they were worse off. I recall there was an IT specialist who stayed in the UK because of the figures.

We religiously watch WDU and have thought about applying to the show but they wouldn't want us. We already know we want to go and don't really have close family and friends to cause issues. Also our house is a work in progress so would not be suitable for getting a valuation in. We are off to visit Perth in February half term though to show the kids what it's all about. We can't wait. We do have some awkward decisions to make about the right timing with myself graduating with my masters this year and kids coming up to GCSE age.

But like I say with no family issues don't think they would be interested.

I think that is ultimately why they didn't choose us, though it was good to get a screen test (I work in the TV/media anyway)

As you say, it is about making a TV programme and the close family who would shed lots of tears, the shock and or awe of being in Australia for the first time (or first time in a number of years), the house that will get under valued by an estate agent, the job that may or may not be obtainable is what it is all about.

Good to see that they have been to more States and cities this series too. They must have already filled for the next series if they are looking for participants, that will be for the one filmed in 2018 and shown in 2019.
