Ive just been offered the chance of an Electricians Job in the Perth area (sponsored). We are a family of 5 with kids aged 13/7/3. i just need pointing in the right direction for a few questions i have. School Fees ? My Wife is into her second year of a nursing degree and works in mental health do we Finnish off in england or is there plenty of support worker Jobs and carry on her education when we get there ? My wife is also under a Psychiatrist and requires medication on perscription, Does this become expensive as i know there NHS can be expensive. Any help would be apreciated Thank you Chris I'm not knowledgeable of visas, but I believe your wife would pay full fees, so may be better to finish in the UK. If it is a 457, then your wife would pay international fees at uni if she were to continue her studies. You could probably find out what these are if you look at the uni websites near to where you are thinking of moving to, but I suspect they will be quite high. If you obtain PR then your wife would pay domestic fees which are considerably less, but I don't think she'd get the FEE-HELP loan, so you'd have to pay the fees up front. I think there may be fees for the children at school too, but I'm not exactly sure what they are. It looks like there might have been some recent changes, so the information seems a bit confused. Hopefully someone in WA will be able to help (we're in NSW). Something else to consider if it is a 457, is that you won't get help towards the cost of childcare for your youngest, which can be a considerable expense (at least it is here in Sydney, Perth might be different). Blewyn Posted January 6, 2017 Share Posted January 6, 2017 Check what qualifications are needed for your wife to work in Oz - no use finishing degree in UK if she just has to repeat in Oz. If getting 457, be very wary. You can't buy an existing house only newbuilds, if you get laid off you have 3mths to find a job or leave the country. Is your sponsor shipping you over ? If so make sure they include a clause in the contract to pay for your return costs no matter what the reason unless by your choice. Quoll Posted January 6, 2017 Share Posted January 6, 2017 School fees usually around $5 K pet child pa and with a little one on a temporary visa you wouldn't get any support with child care fees ($100 per day, ballpark) I would be very hesitant given your wife requires expensive medication - she might not get a visa at all if her costs to the Australian tax payer cross a threshold figure and though the criteria are lower for temporary visas they can be a barrier to long term settlement - I'd be running it past George Lombard or Peter Bollard who specialise in medical conditions. As for studying on a temporary visa - you might get some recognition of prior learning but otherwise she would be up for international students fees (very expensive). Not aware of costs of medication, but the fees to continue nursing would be international rates which is a massive jump. If your wife is currently NHS sponsored/bursary to complete her degree I'm not sure how kindly they would take to this situation. Would you have to pay the money for course fees back? Any help would be apreciated Thank you Chris Chris ,iam back in the u.k for long term family reasons ...BUT.....with a young family ...GO FOR IT ....cant speak for Perth ,but for me ,there wouldn't be a better place in the planet ,than bunbury or somewhere like busselton to bring up a young family . Guest Posted January 7, 2017 Share Posted January 7, 2017 School fees in WA are $4k per family (not child) - at least that's my understanding and they are waived if you earn under a certain amount ($75k) I believe. My primary concern is with your wife's health issues you would never get a PR visa, if your intent is to migrate then make sure you have a realistic path to that now, although we did it I do think it is disruptive to children moving back & forth particularly if it is unplanned & the parents are stressed about it. Definitely talk to a migration agent that specialised in medical issues. Prescriptions can be expensive in Australia though the total you pay in a year is capped. https://www.humanservices.gov.au/customer/services/medicare/pharmaceutical-benefits-scheme-pbs-safety-net It is important to check the medication your wife has is available on the PBS scheme - just like not all mediation is available on the NHS the same is true of medicare. The best medication for my RA in Perth was over $30k a year - free in Scotland, conversly my son was on melatonin which cannot be prescribed in the UK. So make no assumptions.
