Kenfrapin
We are in the final 2 weeks of our move and with the packers arriving next Friday, we've just filled up all the forms they provided The Australia customs form has a section to declare items purchased within the last 12 months and they state we may have to pay duty on these. We were under the impression, after reading many posts, that there isnt any duty when it comes to migrating and taking your entire household with you. Is this an incorrect assumption? We have bought a few lamp shades and kitchen items recently which we are declaring but we have bought things over the last year. Do we have to declare these with an approx cost in AUD and more importantly, will we have to pay customs? Is there a website where I could read more about custom regulations for migration purposes? There isnt anything expensive but dont want to fall foul of their rules or end up with a huge customs tax when our things arrive! Thanks KnK

They just take the items they bought out of the packaging and declare they're over a year old. Can't condone that of course but there's no way for customs to tell how old a lamp shade is. There is, if I remember rightly a limit per shipment which you can bring in tax free. If you go over that you have to pay 10% GST. There are also some customs clearance/inspection fees which (from reading on here) some shippers don't tell you about until the bill arrives. Wooba
I believe the limit is $950. Sent from my SM-N910W8 using Tapatalk
Kenfrapin
Thanks guys, We will use our judgement in declaring the right number of things on the form then! KnK

Ferrets
When our stuff came through customs, the agent checked whether we had anything to declare. I admitted we probably had toys for our kids that were under 12 months old (but used) and we would struggle to give a value, but confident under the threshold. They kind of laughed and advice was not to declare - this is not what they are looking for. If you have a new 70" TV (or similar) worth $000s then would likely be different. They are not looing for lampshades
