Pommie
Hi All Finally hit the 20 week countdown yesterday (OMG)!!! Could anyone let me know how much it cost them to ship a 20ft or a 40ft container from UK to Perth please ?? I am hoping a 20ft will be big enough, however we are a large family and if it was cost effective we could always buy more furniture in the UK and ship it across.... Many thanks
Guest
I'd really not bother buying and shipping a heap of new furniture. Customs might look long and hard at an entire container of new items and may charge you. Often also UK furniture is small and just looks lost in many of the Aus style homes I think. We shipped a minimal amount of furniture and am glad we did this in the end as our furniture would have looked very out of place in our Aus home. Plus it wasn't that expensive buying here and I found a sofa and things I absolutely love that suit our house perfectly. And we built up over time and made sure what we bought suited us, our home and our needs. Also found some gems on Gumtree and buy and sell pages. Welsh dresser, table and 6 chairs and a matching coffee table all for $175! Table and 6 chairs free and use this now as my desk and spare chairs when we have guest. Outside table and 4 chairs, free from Gumtree. Wardrobes are built in and I have a walk in in our master bedroom suite. Average 3 bed house contents generally fit into a sole use 20ft container. Ballpark could be anywhere from £4-5,000, perhaps a bit more. Perhaps even starting around the £4,500 mark these days. Call and book a few shippers to come and give you quotes and compare and go with who you like best. They will vary a bit, perhaps a fair bit but you can haggle on price hopefully.
