Farida
Hi, Our existing independent skilled visa expires in January 2017 and due to numerous problems we've not been able to take up our residency and now face the prospect of our visa expiring before we can now realistically move next year. We've been out and activated our visa on a holiday, but not taken up residency. Does anyone know if it's possible to extend the visa or is it likely we have to go through the whole process and expense again ? We know we could move ahead or by this date, but we know we'd struggle to get a RR visa if we had to come back to close some things off - house sale etc et which is why we'd now rather extend (if we can) and then move so we're not chasing our tails. All comments would be appreciated.
VERYSTORMY
The visa itself doesn't expire, but the travel portion does. It isn't possible to extend that, but there is a good chance of getting an RRV. The department are much more lenient with this. You would need to explain the reasons why you haven't made the move and you would need to be aware they may only issue 1 year. Raul Senise
You would need to apply for a Resident Return Visa. To be granted an RRV without having met the residency requirements, you would need to show that you have substantial business, cultural, employment or personal ties of benefit to Australia, and compelling reasons for any continuous absence from Australia.
