Shipping from Perth to UK Specific questions.

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

Forgive my first post being a question. I lost my profile so just logged in with face book and now I'm a newbie again. :)

My family and I are just about to return to the UK after two wonderful years here in Perth.

Unfortunately we are on a 457 visa with my wife's employment and she's been made redundant so with the market being as bad as it is we've regretfully made the decision to return back to the UK.

I have some questions specifically regarding shipping.

I want to take my Car back with us and have done a fair bit of research on this topic but still have some unanswered questions.

The car is sentimental to me so the financials don't really come into it.

I meet all the requirements to be able to import into the UK without much fuss i.e owned for over 6 months lived outside of the UK for more than 12 etc.

However with everything Transport WA related being in electronic form online I don't have any paper work as such.

So I have no prove of when I purchased the car etc

I also will be using the 10 years or older rule so I only need an MOT in the UK rather than a full blown IVA test. Other than supplying the VIN number the only way I can prove its older than ten years is by showing a screen shot of the Transport WA website with all of the details on. Will that suffice or is there anyway I can offer supporting documents. The only real document I have is the service book with service stamps dating back to its first service in March 2006

Finally, we are looking at a sole use 40 ft container to ship all of our possessions and the car at the same time. I'm assuming this is doable/allowed?

Will the car have to be completely drained of fuel for shipping?

And when these shipping companies say door to door service do they mean just that? i.e They turn up at our address in Perth with a container we load the car and our possessions onto it and 6-8 weeks later the container rolls up at our address in the UK and we unload the bugger complete with my car that will hopefully be unscathed.

I'd be extremely grateful if anyone could clarify any or all of the above points.

Thanks in Advance

hi Darren,

best regards, Kirsty

Finally, we are looking at a sole use 40 ft container to ship all of our possessions and the car at the same time. I'm assuming this is doable/allowed? Yep, typically they will use a 'bulk head' or over casing depending on size of car to create a barrier between both so no damage can occur during movement of the boat.

Will the car have to be completely drained of fuel for shipping? Yes, your shipping company will guide you through all the regulations and what to do with that sort of thing.

Usually, yes, but be careful to check included/excluded services and charges with individual companies because not all companies offer the same so it really depends who you use.
