Looking for advice please. Just waiting on a reply to say we have been successful in our visa application which has been state sponsored by NSW . (all medicals, forms filled in etc). I am a graphic designer and digital marketing looking to work in a more industrial area rather than the CBD. Am moving over with my wife and 2 children (aged 7 yrs and 2 yrs at the moment). We are looking at areas that are family friendly, with good schools, family activites, entertainment, other people who have emgrated as well as modern, new build homes. We are looking to rent for the first 2 years whilst renting out our uk home, then after 2 years looking to buy a property once we have sold here in the uk. (Again we prefer modern, new build homes). Need things within walking distance fir my wife ie schools, shops etc as will onky have 1 car to start with. We are budgeting roughly around 700 to 800 aud per week on rental. Any advice on areas, schools etc would be great. Somebody mentioned an area called Kellyville. We have family in Perth so know the areas in WA to look but would know where to start with NSW. [emoji4] Pleae help

Can't offer loads of advice except to say we are in exactly the same boat, 2 kids too. I also work in marketing / digital marketing. We've been looking at the Ryde area for affordability. We've even been thinking the hills area, no train line (yet) but looks awesome and you can get loads for your money. This site has been really helpful for us. We've got similar rental budget expectations. Good luck! http://www.homely.com.au/find-places we have friends in balmain which also looks lovely.

Defo yes. I'm obsessed! Been working out commute times from various places and trying to be realistic about budget and cost. When are you looking to move? We're going on holiday in July - long story but should have been moving to south Oz but due to a random visa twist we're now on for a 190 NSW, but had booked our holiday anyway so we're going to investigate places this July. Not sure where you live now but I'm thinking, based on London, anything under 1 hr commute is fine, the hills; castle hill, seven hills, baulkham Hills are longer but seriously look great. Keep us posted too!

We live in the north west of England at present. We really wanted to move to perth due to having family there. My aunt was a £10 pom and has bedn there for 35+ years. We got invited by NSW but know nothinfpg of tnis area at all. We are looking to holiday over the christmas period to active our visa so if you could point us into some areas to research after your trip that would be great. My wife is looking to work part time (hopefully to fit in with school times). She is currently working in the NHS (poor sole) and has been for the past 17 years as admin staff. She hopefully wants something along similar lines or school admin.

This is crazy - I work in the NHS too and my friend in Sydney is a healthcare specialist recruitment consultant. Let me know if you need help I can put you in contact. As start she an look here:- https://nswhealth.erecruit.com.au/

We live in Notts now, I cycle to work and have a great life, but we want to try Oz for our kids (my hubby also lived there some years back). I'm sure you will but just go with eyes open, yes some things are more expensive but you'll be getting paid a lot more. Try not to get into the trap of comparing things. You are going for a new life, things will be different. Not always better, but different :)

Are you our dobblegangers??? ? we both have cars here (we live just outside of Preston in Lancashire) as i drop our eldest at school then carry on to work whilst my wife drops our youngest at nursery then carries on to work, she then does the collections at night. Brill that would be a great help for my wife, hopefully it will help her to get some suitable part time. It would be great to meet up once we have all moved over if near enough to compare stories. We will only have one car for a while so need school, shops, work all within easy distance fot walking etc

Meant to say we are going to give our kids hopefully a better start in life. We are under no illusion that it will be easy. I just need a job, affordable home n good schooling. Hopefully friends will follow with work collegues n other parents at school.

Nearly all suburbs will fit the bill for family friendly, family activities, shops and entertainment, most suburbs are going to contain both modern and older style housing and most will be populated by some people that have emigrated and people that have lived in Australia all their lives. I am not aware of any particular British enclave.

Good schools are to a large extent correlated to good suburbs and the suburb you will get into will come down to budget. Your budget is on the decent side of average, won't go far in the really desirable suburbs but will get you somewhere nice enough. Kellyville is in the Hills District, it is not a bad suggestion for you based on your budget. Don't limit yourself to Kellyville though, it is just one suburb, Sydney suburbs all roll into one and it is better to think of a cluster or suburbs than just one, so in this case you would target the Hills District.
