According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) 42.9 per cent of Adelaide residents registered themselves as ‘not married’. This scores the city above the national average for single locals and just bolstered your efforts of meeting Mr or Mrs Right. So, where exactly might these eligible folk be residing?

Brompton and Bowden

Neighbouring suburbs Brompton and Bowden are the benefactors of a recent facelift. With the old factories replaced by quirky townhouses and affordable apartments, the area has attracted a younger, edgier, and importantly, unattached crowd.

Both areas boast large numbers of singles, making this an ideal suburb to meet your match. Close to half of the residents in Bowden live alone (47.3 per cent), while this is slightly lower in Brompton (33.2 per cent), where 48.4 per cent of locals are registered as ‘never married’ and 55.4 per cent as ‘not married’. In Bowden, 52.6 per cent of people have never married and another 58.1 per cent are registered as ‘not married’.

Glenelg

Glenelg is the South Australian equivalent of Bondi in Sydney – it’s by the beach, bustling with foot traffic and its main streets are lined with trendy cafes and shops. The suburb is popular among locals and tourists alike who flock to the beach, jetty and the suburb’s very own amusement park The Beachhouse. This is the perfect suburb for the single person who likes to mingle and prefers the coast over the city.

While the average age of Glenelg residents is skewed upwards, it still has a large pool of eligible singles. 38.5 per cent of locals are ‘not married’ and the median age of respondents who have never been married is 26.

Goodwood

Goodwood is the perfect place for people who consider themselves just a little left of centre. Think boutique shops, art deco architecture and long, tree-lined leafy streets. It’s located just outside of the city centre, neighbouring the Royal Adelaide Showground, and is connected to the inner city hub with great public transport.

In this area, 45.6 per cent of residents are listed as single, and of this pool the median age is 34. This suburb boasts a broader dating pool, including a large gay and lesbian community.
