Doesn't insurance cost extra money and therefore increase the cost of moving? I also thought most movers had some basic level of insurance included anyway.

Never assume that movers have insurance included.  Some do, some don't, and if they do, it's very basic indeed.

Hi Community Good Morning Every One

We do however recommend that you take out Insurance as accidents can happen and mistakes by third party handling are possible during any removals overseas. If you are moving with your employer or a new employer, the company may already self-insure. If not, make sure that you have adequate international removals Insurance cover in place prior to shipping.

Please be advised of the following when insuring your household effects for International removals: Posted By Hotmail

Hi all, just wanted to hear peoples opinion on taking out the insurance when shipping furniture / goods.

A) Do people think it's worth paying for the insurance?

B) Has anyone had their items damaged or lost? Like is something that is likely to happen?

We’ve done two big household moves, and did not take out insurance on either move.

We felt that if our container sunk in the sea, we could accept that as we have nothing of any real value really, just stuff, and it was a gamble we were prepared to take.

Nothing major was broken, a glass here or there, and that was it.

Considering the cost of insurance and the excess / small print conditions attached to these types of policies, it was a risk we were prepared to take, but like all insurances, you need to weigh up the risk to yourself versus the benefits.

Interesting.  I am tempted down this path myself. You're right, the stuff that matters is irreplaceable really and the other stuff is just stuff.  I will give that some thought - the insurance websites seem like a bit of a nightmare tbh

Hi

I have had a quote from Letton Percival for my household stuff but just found out they don’t insure cars! I am taking a car as well in the same container.

Any recommendations of companies that would insure both car and household or even just the car?

I don’t want to use the removal company as they are ripping me off at 3.5%.

Many thanks!

Sam
