Dubai animal centre

Hi Bob

we are starting to plan a move from Australa to the UK and are deciding which will be the best route for our little fella (chihuahua).

Wondered if if you would know a question about the Dubai airport animal centre?

We have a concern about him being left in a room with other dogs. He was severely attacked a while ago and since then is not good with other dogs. Or, do they get a room for themselves while they are waiting for the onward flight?

Cheers

Hi.

There are a number of options available, and a lot depends on many factors.

We use the Emirates route from Scotland which does involve a stay at Dubai airport. I am sure the pets stay in their crates for the 8-10 hours are briefly checked and then back to the plane. Which is why we recommend the QANTAS route as our standard as there is no messing about at Dubai. They stay on the plane, the plane stops for 2 hours and off they go. so if you have a nervous little dog then this is going to be the best option for you.

Some shippers wont recommend this route as the check in is at 0900 so if they are not close to the airport then it means a super early start for them. But really if you can avoid a long stopover then you should really.

Dont forget to start the rabies work nice and early - at least 7 months before you plan to fly your little fella!

we have spoken to Dogtainers and are waiting for their qoute - gather you don't do Australia to UK?

They have only give us two options - Emirates and Malasian. The Emirates flight only has a two hour stop over and part of us thinks that would be best as they said there is a compulsory stay if it is via Dubai of a number of hours and he could stretch his legs.

They have also said the rabies only needs to be 22 days prior

Thought this link might give some needed info on what happens during transit at the Dubai Airport Animal Centre and what options for Animals etc

"DKC is the exclusive, official Animal Handler for Emirates and dnata, providing animal care management on behalf of these two organisations for the countless animals which transit through Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Dubai World Central (DWC) each year... for your pets of all kinds and an endless variety of small and large exotics."
