Quote
Hi all, Myself and my partner are currently planning a route for our Christmas road trip and I was wondering if any of you had and 'must see' locations? Of course I'm scouring Google / Trip Advisor and other sources for potential suggestions. Interests include wine, cheese, beer, history, mining and minerals, fruit picking, local agriculture, animals, aboriginal art. Open to anything really. Potential route is as follows: Melbourne --> Echuca --> Swan Hill --> Mildura --> Broken Hill --> White Cliffs --> Cobar --> Dubbo --> Mudgee --> Orange --> Wagga Wagga --> Melbourne All of the about in about 17 days. The original plan was to head west after Broken Hill and return to Melbounre via Adeliade but I've done that route a few times so not too appealing. First draft route here: http://goo.gl/dL5iYA Thanks in advance Edited November 4, 2015 by Quote
Guest
I live in Swan Hill and personally i can't think of anything worthwhile seeing or doing here. Echuca is nice enough though maybe a ride on a paddlesteamer in either Swan Hill or Echuca ( Echuca have a dinner or lunch cruise) Which is pretty good. Swan Hill does have the pioneer settlement if that appeals. Mildura also has paddlesteamers too.

Mildura and Echuca both seem to have a lot more going on. Maybe we won't stay the night in Swan Hill...
jumpingjellybean
. Out of your list, Mudgee is the best place in my opinion. Lovely little town. Great places to stay, eat and drink. Has some really good wineries in the area for touring / tasting. The Arocombie Caves nearby are a nice place to camp if that is your thing. Orange is OK but a bit too "country town" ish (redneck). But there is a really good restaurant there called Lolli Redini: http://www.lolliredini.com.au/ This is a nice restaurant in Mildura: http://www.stefano.com.au/restaurant/venue-info/ It is in The Grand Hotel where you can also spend the night. As you can see, much of my travels revolve around places to eat gourmet food and drink fine wine. Otherwise nearby you could visit Mungo: http://www.visitmungo.com.au/
Bobj
Broken Hill is worth a few days just fossicking the old mines, and there are squillions of 'em. http://www.bonzle.com/c/a?a=p&h=40000&i=804&j=804&nudge=1&x=141.393337409338&y=-32.08051&s=thackaringa%2C%20nsw&st=NSW&c=1&p=7609&w=40000&mpsec=0#map Cheers, Bobj.
