SaraW
We are mid forties/fifties. Considering Newcastle as a location. I have work lined up but would like to know how this area might work for us. Husband is a management consultant and daughter is doing a graphic design degree but plays rugby union to a high level. We all love our social life, entertainment and restaurants are important but we have 2 dogs too so inner city is not for us. I've heard its a bit run down but suburbs are nice, how grim is it? About as far removed from 'grim' as you can imagine
Bungo
I only visited, but thought Newcastle was a lovely city. It didn't look at all run down to me and not far away there are some lovely beaches. I would definitely live there if work was available. Kapri
Newcastle isn't grim! Its surrounded by beaches, beautiful countryside and trees! We we love it here
Marisawright
I agree, Newcastle has an undeserved reputation as being rough and rundown, but that's well out of date. The city centre can be a bit grungy but the beaches are stunning, there are some really nice suburbs and it's very affordable compared to Sydney.
