Guest BullcreekBob
G'day Yes, we regularly deposit cheques for UK pounds sent to us as pressies. The fx rate is usually a percent or two worse for cheques than it is for Telegraphic Transfers, but it's better than depositing cash. - Yes, we've even deposited some UK cash into our National bank account. It nominally takes ages to clear, about a month, but National Bank allow you to withdraw and spend the money next day, they just reserve the right to later on say, "Hey the cheque's bounced" you need to repay us. Maybe this is because I'm well known and I've banked there for years, but honestly I doubt I'm getting any special treatment.
Guest dwaldron
If you want to send small amounts to an Australian account try http://www.worldmoneymove.com I have to say that my experience has been that their service isn't that great, and they are slow, but it does seem to get there.
