Hannah88
Hi everyone, My partner and I have been thinking about making the move to Oz for a while. We have a 1 year old son and definitely want to take the leap in the next year-18 months. I have a few questions if you don't mind... Firstly, I think we want to live in NSW, but have absolutely no idea where! So any advice on family friendly areas/towns would be appreciated. Secondly, our son has congenital glaucoma, so do you know if we would be able to receive Medicare? Or would we have to have private health insurance? I am a midwife and my partner is a teacher, so we are hoping to be able to get jobs relatively easily. Does anyone know how easy it is to get permanent residence? Look forward to hearing from you all. I am so excited! My partner on the other hand, is a bit of a family man, so is apprehensive about leaving his relatives! I am hoping it will all be worth it once we get out there Thanks, Hannah

There are temp & permanent options- most people would advise you to apply for the Permanent options for security, although if you have a job offer the temporary employer-sponsored 457 is usually the one they employ to get you there faster. Could be the useful option too if your husband is not at all sure- it's a long way away from family, especially if they support you with child-care. Anyway, you're the best judge of that so read the visas through carefully. Also read through other threads on here re.Health issues & Med Insurance ;& the dedicated Nursing/Teacher threads. You might be wise to contact a Mara reg'd Migration agent who specialises in Health matters re. your son's specific condition; you will need to pass Medicals .
