Jimbo and Monika
Hello all, We are new to the forum, having spent quite some time reading the various posts and general chit chat, thought it was about time we signed up! Our 457 visa application process is underway and whilst we can't be sure of our ETA in Perth, I'm guessing it will be early May. I'm sure lots of you have been through what we are experiencing at the moment, the enormity of relocation, planning how to leave everything in the UK in order, trying to research where to live, bricking it after reading about the cost of living etc, it's all rather scary, but in terms of getting organised as long as you aim to chip away and get things done in bite size chunks it soon feels more manageable. Looking forward to getting out there now, not sure of the point of this thread but it was cathartic in a way - I hope I didn't bore you all too much! Hope to chat to some of you soon. If anyone has any thoughts, advice or personal experiences on moving to Perth / relocation in general that they would like to share, we are all ears. Thanks in advance! jamjar
Hiya and welcome Not been here long myself but just posting will probably make you feel better. There is a wealth of very useful info on this site. Also in London and also heading to Perth in about 6 months time. There is also another sister site to this called Perth Poms - a lot quieter but also has good info specific to Perth. Good luck

Jimbo & Monika We moved to Sydney Last July on a 457 visa, been here for 10 months and are loving it! We came here on holiday last March only for my hubby to get a job where they sponsored him and we had 4 months to pack up, rent the house out, ship the cats over, say goodbye etc etc... It was a whirlwind and VERY emotional saying goodbye but i would not change it. Our lifestyle has changed dramatically, we have a solid group of friends that we have made and have been out socialising more in the last 10months than we have in the last 10 years! I urge to be social and make new friends or you could feel out of touch and lonely... it does take effort but its worth it! Yes the cost of living is more, especially in Sydney so unsure of Perth but our wages are alot higher - We are better off here than the UK! We are coming back to blightly for a holiday in May/June this year but this is definately home for now. just sending luck from someone who has been there and is wearing the T-shirt! Dee :-)
Jimbo and Monika
Thanks Dee! It turns out we're coming over early - Immigration chap said up to 6 weeks, but visa was approved after 6 days! Flights booked and nearly done informing everyone, sorting out admin etc. Perth seems to be expensive as well, but I've got a decent payrise out of it all so I'm hoping to be feel a little better off too once I start earning dollars. Fingers crossed!
Munchkinella
Just wanted to wish you luck. Some things can be more expensive here but with the higher wages every thing seems to even out. hope everything goes well with your move. Most of all enjoy!!
Jimbo and Monika
Thanks Munchkin, I doubt we'll enjoy the move / flight etc but hoping to find somewhere to rent soon after landing (the one last remaining bit of stress!) - then we can enjoy it! Val Tibenham
Congratulations on getting your visa (and so quickly) Have you booked flights yet? Guess your time left will be spent packing, sorting and saying goodbye. At least the weather here in London is better today, if a little chilly. Good luck ! Shazza110
Hi there We moved out to Perth (North of the River) Nov 2011. Dont panic about the cost of living, somethings are dearer but we have found some things are cheaper and the wages reflect this anyway. Think its quite normal to feel scared, I went through all emotions and when you think of what you are doing, it is pretty scary. Don't worry, I am sure you will love it and if there is anything you need to know or can help with, please feel free to give me a shout . We found people on this website very helpful and have even met up with a few when we arrived and they have become friends. Good luck with the move
