Guest Carl Boardman
Hi everyone. I have just joined this website today and wish i found it earlier. I am moving to Brisbane this Aug on a holiday working visa after 8 yrs in the RAF. I have a engineering background but unfortunately my specific trade is not on the demands job list, I will be living with a good friend and his family. Does anyone know what the chances are like of getting sponsored once your out there?? in most jobs?? Thanks Carl
Guest lizface
Hey Carl, your best bet is to join agencies and put your CV about as much as possible while you're there! It's a lot easier to get employer sponsorship once you're actually in Australia - a friend of a friend of mine got sponsored to continue working in a gym after his WHV ran out. Engineering skills are in demand in Australia at the moment, so I think you won't have much difficulty finding a job in that area. Good luck and let us know how you get on. VERYSTORMY
Actually i would say low. A sponsoring company must be able to show that the reason for the sponsorship is that they can not fill the role with a local. Without a trade or degree in engineering this probably would not be the case. Engineers such as mine, civil and projects are in demand, but not so much mechanical or electrical (even degree qualified). As a result i would you need to treat you WHV purely as that. Guest Carl Boardman
Oh no! Really? I have spoke to visa specialist and they say I should be fine and big companies already have sponsorship protocols in place and it may be just a matter of asking. Is your knowledge on experience from being out there just to ask? I'd like to say my engineering experience on fast jet safety equipment should put me in good stead, but obviously I don't know for sure?? Shinner
Hi mate 457 visa allows me to work for BAE for 4 years. They provide accommodation and a car for a month, during that time gonna look for a place. Based at Townsville working on their Army Chinooks. Keep an eye on the Jobs for BAE not sure if they are after squippers at the moment but there has to be someone. Make sure you get all your Human factors certs etc. As they keep saying on this site if you want to get out there and you don't give up you'll be fine.
