Depending on your employers they may sponsor you for PR at some point, others won't (not can't, but won't, the darker side to 457) but if you have the points etc etc you can apply yourselves. Not sure of any implications if your employer wouldnt sponsor you and you gained it independantly anyway...for example just because you were on a PR doesn't mean they have to let you drop down to part time. (if this was perhaps one of the reasons for getting it) Providing you are happy in oz and the PR won't have an affect on your employement I'd say go for it.
