simonwilliams
hi I'm moving back to uk in a couple of years , and I'm bringing my 2 springer spaniels back with me, can anyone tell me if they have to go into quarantine in uk and about how much it would cost to ship them back. thanks simon
LouDYorkie
I haven't looked into it in any detail but quarantine periods seemed to depend on whether your dogs are up to date with vaccinations and have had a Rabies jab within the last x months/years..... BobPetairUK
Hi. No quarantine if they travel back to UK and have all correct docs. You need to contact a shipper in Australia to help you with this and ideally you need to travel back within 5 days of the pets. Bob
marenmatt1
Hi Bob, I know ppl have probably asked this already but I just wanted to know what goes into shipping a cat from Australia to the UK. (Eg any vaccinations, how long it takes, any quarantine time?)
BobPetairUK
Hi You know it only takes 21 days to get a pet prepared to come into UK?. Here's all the details you need https://www.gov.uk/take-pet-abroad/overview
marenmatt1
Hi Bob, thank you for the link. One question I have though is it says I will need a certificate for my cat entering the UK (which isn't a problem) but then it said after being there for a certain amount of time I will need to switch to a pet passport. Do I still need this even if we are moving there to live? Thank you
BobPetairUK
no, if you are coming to live and stay then that is fine, no passport neeeded
lismith25
Can I please check something, I was hoping to send my dog back about a month before we would fly. My reasons are we live in an inconvenient pkace to travel too and from, so I was going to travel with him down to Brisbane. Settle him, hand him over and get my parents to collect him from Heathrow, then come back and finish the pack up. Is this going to be possible or Is there a timeframe? Thanks
BobPetairUK
Really the correct way to travel is to fly within 5 days of your pets, or find someone to travel over within 5 days of your pets. Worth having a chat with the pet shipper in Australia you are going to use about the best way to approach this rule, if it does not fit with your plans
Spaniels
Hi Simon, I just moved from Perth to UK with my 2 Spaniels. Some airlines do not allow certain Spaniels (I think Air Malaysia is one of them). Its a very simple process - they only need Rabies at least 3 weeks prior to departure. I also had a fantastic experience with a shipper from Perth who organized everything and it was just under $5000 for both of them. You are not allowed to arrange travel yourself due to aviation security. My dogs went on Cathay Pacific from Perth to Heathrow with a plane change in Hong Kong and we went on same flight. There is no quarantine in the UK and you need to collect the dogs from the animal reception center. Make sure you have a big enough car as they will not hold your sky kennels if you cannot fit them in your car!
simonwilliams
Hi thanks for that can you tell me who your shippers were please
Spaniels
Pet Travel Specialist in Perth. The guy (Angus) who handles everything from start to finish is a export Vet. He does the worming on the departure day and has nice facilities where they stay on the departure day. He also drops them off personally at the airport and sent us a photo them. i also looked into Jetpets but their call center is over east and you don't speak to the person who handles your dogs. I also didnt like the fact that they have to drive around to get to an export vet for worming as that adds to the stress. They quoted me on Air Malaysia when I believe Air Malaysia does not even ship Spaniels (according to their website). I had a third quote from Dogtainers Perth but their quote was significantly higher then the other two (over $6000). I just felt more comfortable with a Vet handling my dogs and arranging everything from start to finish.
