We registered with both NorthStar Properties (in westfields) and Harcourts (Wendy from the uk is absolutely lovely!).
When we moved here there was loads of competition for a small number of rentals, lots of us turning up for inspections and properties going to application very quickly (not sure of the situation now?). We ended up getting a property via Tracey Shrew at NorthStar, she is really helpful!
The property we went for is a large 4 bed two storey house on Finnegan Drive, not too far from the school and close to lake Eden. As the property already had an application waiting to go through that day we offered the 6 month rental up front, including the 4 week bond. This swung it for us and we got the rental..... but also took a large part of our savings! But we also thought that at least the rent was covered for 6 months regardless of what happened job wise.
Northstar Properties have got a website listing current rentals so you could have a look and budget for the possibility of having to part with a lump sum, even though 6 months might be unnecessary?
