Rental references and paperwork - What do I need to take???

Hi All, there have been a couple of mentions of an aussie driving licence - sets me on another question, how quickly do we have to have aussie licences to drive after we get there, is there a limit on how long we can use Uk ones?

Driving licences are administered by the states so there may be slight differences. Here in Queensland, I had six months where I could drive legally on my UK licence.

Getting a Qld licence was easy. I just needed 100 points of identification (they specify what different sorts they require), the old UK licence....and some money. I had it sorted out in about five minutes once I had the right forms of ID. As I recall, some had to show a Queensland address so I needed something like a utility bill or two before I could do this--I had all I needed about six weeks after arrival.
