Cleveland/Wellington Point

Does anybody have any useful information on these areas please? Myself and my husband and our little boy who is 2yrs old will hopefully be over in Australia by the end of the year. We've had a look at surrounding areas around Brisbane as well but there are so many to choose from we just don't know where to begin, if you can recommend any nice suburbs for us to look at that would be useful.

Cleveland is a nice area dont know much about wellington point but i know one of my well off oz mates has moved there so it cant be to bad, a few other places are carina, tingalpa has a few nice areas and then you can go the other side of briz ie springfield, cinnamon park. but it is like anything it depends on your needs ie job, child care etc.
your best bet would be to get here rent a place then start to look around at least you will have a base to work from. plus if your shipping stuff over then it can go there. we are still renting now and we have been here a year because we want to move out to springfield but just need to sort out travelling issues and my son who is nearly 2 loves the child care centre he is at so we thought we would leave him there a bit longer.

Also getting child care places can be a bit difficult but that again depends on what area you are going to.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply I'll research some of the suburbs you have suggested. My husband is a carpenter so we need to be near to the city for his work although not too near, about an hour's drive wouldn't be bad. We haven't even begun to research child care or schools yet but like you say we do plan on renting when we first arrive and that way we can have a good look around at schools etc. There are so many things to think about my head is in a bit of a whirl at the moment. We're coming over from Manchester. Whereabouts are you renting at the moment?

Sarah

I love wellington point my favourite place in Brisbane.

If you do a search on here for Bayside there should be a fair bit of info come up.

Great place to bring up children

good luck

Thanks for your response Kaye. Hope all is going well with your move. I see you are heading for Perth, we were originally thinking of Perth but then decided Brisbane, purely for hubby's work though. Just got to sell our house now and then we'll be on our way, hopefully sooner rather than later...don't know how much more of this bad weather I can take...

We have been living in Wynnum, on the Cleveland rail line 7 months now and its handy (40mins) into Brisbane City. Wellington/Cleveland would be slightly longer to travel to work but great areas and good shopping at Carindale down the road. Wellington point is fantastic and superb for weekend bar b Q's. The local shoreline is dotted with play areas and bar-b-q areas, all the way up to Wynnum. It really depends where work is for you. Best of luck. T

Hi there we live in Birkdale which is 3 mins from Welly point and 12 mins from cleveland, we have been here since new years eave and are very happy with our pin in the map choise.

We are 50 mins from gold coast and 30 from the city, 45 in rush hour. Welly point has a nice beach, no waves tho as stradbrook island and other islands stop any waves coming in.

Close suburbs are
Capalaba, quite good shops
Birkdale, smallish
Thornside, closer to city
Ormiston, nice and right inbetween welly and cleveland
Thornlands just south of cleveland and cheaper than,
Victoria point, bit further south
Redland Bay still developing.
Mount Gravatt, might just get an acre-age still
Also, Manly, Wynumm, bit closer to city
Carindale large shopping centre

Try this and feel free to PM us

Stradbrook island is nice which is a 25min ferry cat ride from cleveland, you can camp on beach and stuff. Worth a weekend even tho it is only close to us.

Dan and Lynsey

Oh forgot to say, dont expect beaches just because it is close to sea. the coast is mud, not sand, only propper sandy beaches at Straddy and Kulchimuldo, and a bit of 1 at welly point.
