RE: Renting unfurnished

Hi,

We're moving in January and would welcome thoughts what is included in a unfurnished accommodation in terms of renting. Basically will there be washing machine, or do we need to fetch ours over? Obviously I know furniture wouldn't be included. Curtain poles? Curtains etc.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

You will need white goods. Essentially you rent the property which includes the property, floor finishes, curtains, blinds etc and any fitted furniture including kitchen, bathrooms and robes if built in. To kitchen oven, sink and hob will be included.

I'd say it varies from state to state. In NSW, properties must have a way to dry clothes - which means if there's no outside space, it must have a tumble drier. You have to supply fridge, washing machine etc. Modern apartments often have a dishwasher built in, but built-in fridges are rare so you'll probably have to supply your own.

In Melbourne it seems that white goods aren't included at all, except for the odd dishwasher.

Be careful with the online pics. I've found beautiful pictures of lovely looking houses online. I go visit the property and the rotten wood Windows, thread bear carpets and rot everywhere make you wonder where the online pic came from. But I only found built in cookers left in (but not always). It does depend on your budget as well, more expensive high rise appartments which are newer will have more built in stuff. Old units/ houses aren't always well cared for

We live in a rented property & all it came with was a dishwasher, an oven & a tumble dryer. We've got friends who rent in w different suburb & their apartment came with a washing machine & a fridge too so I think it varies massively based on where you're renting & what you're paying per werk
