rental in canberra

Hi guys, just looking for some advice for renting in Canberra. We are listed with some real estate agents, but just wondered if anyone had any other advice to offer. We get to Canberra on 6th oct and want to rent while we look to buy. Ideally we need something 3 bedroom ish to accommodate our stuff from the UK so when it arrives so we dont need to put it into storage. I'm sure there are lots of people been in this situation, not in Canberra(because not many people go there!) but anywhere really! Help me please, talk to me!

Pamela, trying to remain calm, Walker

Hi
I am afraid I can't help you. I just wanted to wish you all the best. I am planning on moving to Canberra as well and renting like you. We have noticed that there aren't many people on here going there either.
Good luck with you move and starting your new life.
:)

Hello both, we to are going to Canberra. You might be better of getting a short term rental for a couple of weeks to find your feet when you first get there. Thats what we intend to do, as not sure if i would be brave enough to rent somewhere sight unseen! These sights might help with that. All the best Emma

Hi, arrived in Canberra last week and so far its going ok. We have only manged to see inside one property but did lots of drive bys. The rentals go very quickly and unfortunately a lot of the viewings are on Saturdays which we missed! Anyway, the one we have gone for is big enough and in a nice area although a bit grotty inside. I am trying to convince myself that it is only for 6 months. Once we get our own stuff in there, it won't be so bad. Also buying cars....Its all fun!

Hi scorgiep
Thanks for getting back to me. It looks like we won't be heading out there till January and my employer will be arranging accommodation for the first coupleof weeks. Hopefully that will allow us time to get sorted. I hope you settle in to your new place quickly. Good luck with the car shopping.

Hi all. we are going to Queanbeyan, just outside Canberra. Hubbys been offered a job, going on 457 visa, still waiting though. We are british but living in South Africa at the moment. Glad to hear someone else is going to that part of Aus, was beginning to feel like we would be alone !
I've looked on the following sites for rentals, also good for classifieds(2nd hand stuff) www.allhomes.com.au Sydney Classifieds - jobs in Sydney, flats to rent, Sydney dating
Our new employer sadid to try caravan parks for the first few weeks,, until we find a house. Look at Crestview Tourist Park - Caravan park - Accommodation - Canberra - Queanbeyan theres loads for the kids to do, but it does work out a bit on the costly side. Its a start though.
Cheers
karon (of the gooners)

There are also short term rentals that are available in Canberra which have a kitchen etc. I don't think I could cope with a tiny space given all the stress that you will go through with kids, finding schools, finding a home etc. Goodluck though.
