Well Georgie ,

we have been in Narangba for a week now and i can say that from our point of view its brilliant. We have visited all three local schools and all were fantastic, very freindly and made my 2 kids feel 100 % from the start .

The local shops at both ends of town are good and the people so far are very helpfull.

I havent looked for work yet so i cant comment on that yet but the feel so far is that we are very happy.

We have been and sorted out driving licences , Medi care cards , Bank cards for the accounts already open , car and even a house so we have had a mad week.

Kids are gutted that schools have just broken up the day we arrived as they have had 7 weeks off in england and they need to get back into a routine asap.

We have found that although the local shops are restricted you can drive in any direction and get to big shops within 10 mins or so .

Took the kids to Beach , and lagoon in redcliffe on sunday and the mountian look outs and they loved every minute - and it all free !!!!!!

ill keep you informed and email me if i can help in other ways ??

regards

Lee

Hi Lee

Glad you like it there. What school did you decide on? What is the rental situation like? Did you find it easy?

How long did it actually take you to drive to Redcliffe? The only thought i would have is its so far from the sea. We originally wanted to live in Maroochydore area but think it would be too expensive. You cant really get anything for under $400k there. Narangba has cheaper housing but my question is why are they cheaper as there must be a reason for it. Thats why i thought i would post the original question to try and get an answer to that!

We arrived in Australia at the end of August 2006 and our son Will (8) was in the same situation as he had just broken up from school in England. We managed to get him into school in Melbourne for the last couple of months before they broke up again for their summer holidays. Different to you kids as he was gutted he had to go back

Anyway sorry for all the questions.
Georgie

We have choosen the new Narangba valley state school as where we have settled its within walking for the family , but the others were very good too and we wouldnt have hesitated in them too. There are several routes to redcliffe and scarborough fronts and i suppose they take about 15mins or so. Redcliffe has a lovely sunday fruit and veg market starting at 6am so i think that could become a regular visit for us with the kdis having a lagoon swim after too.

I cant see any reason for the pricing being slighty cheaper other than its the little bit further out than other areas. 2nd hand houses are worth less than new ones it seems and narangba probably has more of these than maybe northlakes for instance. As the market is not too good at the moment there are some good buys to be had for £400k as well in both areas as we have seen.

Regards

Lee

Thanks Lee for your reply

We are going to be there at the end of October/beginning of Nov (depends on how long we take driving up there). I am really looking forward to it now. Work is dragging as i know i am leaving soon and we are just about to start packing up a few things now. We will stay with our friends for a couple of weeks in North Lakes til we find something. The only house i saw with a pool in Narangba has been let out - it was on Rifle Range Road. You guys didnt nab it did you?? lol. There doesnt seem to be much with a pool to rent so may have to just pump up the old paddling pool!

By the way, i dont know if you and your family are interested but i have started a thread in socialising if you want to add your name. So far its just me and Angelcake but i am sure there must be others. If you notice anywhere nice we can have a meet up will you tell me?

I would say one of the reasons some houses are cheaper is because of being close in narangba to toxic industries. Nobody have mentioned the huge problem they have had at Binary Industries. Sorry to tell you but you did ask if there was any negative things about the area. Google the above and you will see what I am talking about.
I sorry but it is one place I would not live within 10 kms of it!! let alone bring up children.
Have a look at this article and make your mind up yourselves.

Wow that's pretty scary!!

How many toxic industries are in the area? I must admit, having 3 young children that has seriously put me off Narangba.

Angelcake its kind of put me off too.... however i will look more into it first. May originally still rent there and see what the situation is like first of all then maybe look elsewhere if it is too bad there. I am so sick of it all and seem to spend my life on realestate .com. Just going to stick with Narangba fort the time being and see. I do really appreciate being told about this toxic business though and think it needs serious thought. How come no one else mentioned it i wonder?

Completely agree with you Georgie, definately needs looking in to. I've come to the conclusion that there's only so much research you can do on the internet about different suburbs and really, you have to be there and see them.

My sister and her family have been in Brisbane for 11 days now and have been looking at suburbs. She decided Narangba was too out in the sticks for her, so they've settled on North Lakes. They applied for one rental and didnt get it, so they are currently looking at others in the area.

If you find out anymore info about Narangba let me know and I'll do the same.

Thanks
Angelcake

Angelcake i thought North Lakes was too leggo land so thats out for me! But some people love it and same with Narangba no doubt. Anyway i will let you know if i find out anything further. Really wish i could afford Maroochydore then there would be no problem whatsoever i would be there like a shot!!

Actually i think i would like that to be my final destination but i will have to suss things out from a place where the rentals are easier to come by (Narangba) but you never know we may end up staying there as i really hate the idea of dragging the kids from school to school
Catch you later i am off to bed with my head spinning!!
