I am looking for some help on Brisbane, I have never been to Oz and cant afford a rekkie and will hopefully be moving over next year. I am not familiar with any suburbs. I have heard there are some really bad areas, could anyone tell me where the good family areas are I have 3 children under 5. I dont mind being a distance from the beach just want a nice area near the good schools. Just looking for help and some ideas so I can look into the areas more as I have no idea where to start.
Thanks everyone

Hey all,
We are in a similar situation to Carly. We are looking for a nice, crime free neighbourhood that doesn't cost the earth in rent, right next to an excellent junior school and close enough for just an hour commute to the technical sector of Brisbane (would appreciate if someone could tell me where that is too! lol).
Don't ask for much do we? lol
hi guys! we are in west brisbane, about 40-45 mins into cbd, nice places here are jindalee, mount ommaney, sinnomon park, west lake, middle park, all have good schools and shopping, rent prices are quite good, not really heard of any crime here (dont get me wrong there must be some somewhere!) got 2 kids in local schools and they love it here, no kids on street corners etc! about 45 mins to gold coast, so not to bad either, any more questions, feel free to pm me, plus have a look on ourbrisbane.com, lots of info on there
Thanks Sheena! You read my mind! I am in Sinnamon Park. We are 30 mins by bus from the CBD. Do remember tho that there is no such thing as a crime free neighbourhood!!!!

We moved here 2 years ago and we had never been before because it was just too expensive. We live on the South East coast at Moreton Bay or Bayside as it is known. Suburbs around here are Thornlands, Cleveland, Wellington Point, Redland Bay, Victoria Point, Birkdale, Alexandra Hills and Capalaba. Each of the suburbs have good schools, private and state. Obviously, the better areas are more expensive to buy property but the area is really nice. We live at Redland Bay, we are 40 minutes drive to the Gold Coast, 40 minutes to Brisbane airport and are not far from the water. Go onto ourbrisbane.com and it will give you info on each of the suburbs and also house prices etc. Hope this helps and if you need anymore info just yell!!

Hiya ,what a tough decision you have, lol, theres soo many lovely places,id probably start on Real Estate | Homes for Sale | Houses for Sale | MLS Listings | REALTORs | Real Estate Agents - RealEstate.com to see what areas are within your price range, the neaer the city or the coast the more expensive they get.As the others have said the our brisbane website is good for inner city suburbs and gives you lots of info and facts. There arent loads of realy bad areas, just 2 or 3 suburbs id personally avoid, but no where is as bad as a 'rough' area of the uk and im from manchester, lol!! I love it here especially the freedom it gives the kids(and its still affordable, lol),we have weekly playgroup in the park mondays, wednesdays and fridays, games ,storys fruit platers ,best off all its FREE!! My little girl is 4 and goes to kindy 3 days a week and gymnastics on tuesday mornings ,my son who is 9 is in the primary next door,to kindy, the local shops are at the bottom of the street and a park with swings etc across the road,,have a look at my website we can do suburb searches for you and we personally go to the areas of your choice to check them out ,get you info and photos etc ,let me know if you need any help with anything,

We stayed in Chapel Hill when we came out here with the BBC,nice houses not too squashed together and the people seemed friendly ,also great access to highways and the city, the downsides for me where its so bloomin hilly ,not easy with little ones, it was also a traffic nightmare when you wanted to go out ,didnt matter what time of day ,you sat in a jam, lol!hope this helps a bit
