Just researching area's on the Sunshine coast and Peregian Springs sounds lovely, does anyone live there or near by and could tell me more.
Any info or opinions would be appreciated
Thanks
Lisa

Hello... have been meaning to post to this site for a while. Myself and my other half moved here to the Sunshine Coast in February and we are loving it. We live in Marcoola, just down the road from Peregian.
What kind of info do you need and I'll do my best to help you out!
Its hard researching area's over the net you can only do so much. My first concern is schools, we have 3 children 8,6,&2 and I'm thinking that moving to Oz is going to be a big thing for them, starting a new school and everything so I don't want to change school when we move from rented to our own home. Do you know anything about schools in the area?
I know that they are planning to build a new smart school on the Ridges developement of Peregian to be completed end 2009. One of the reasons we have been looking at this area is my husband would like us to buy a new home eventually and they will be building there for a few years yet.
Whats it like in the area ? Do you find there is enough facilities (shopping, eating out etc)
Love to know what you like and hate about living there?
Im so glad that you are loving it, it makes all the time and effort to get there worth it.
Can you tell me a bit about Marcoola? I will have a look on a map so I can get an idea of where it is.
We intend to come over and do a rekkie trip when we get our visa so we can validate at the same time so I am gathering as much info as I can ready for then.
Thanks again, I hope I havent bombarded you with too much
Lisa

Well! Alas, we are not yet parents so I am afraid I don't know too much about schools. I *think* the closest two Primary Schools to the Peregian Beach area are Coolum and Coolum Beach Primary Schools, but there may be others within a commute that are better in terms of facilities etc. We're trying to buy a house at the moment, I can always ask our local real estate agent!!
What's it like in the area? - Ahhh... peace, perfect peace and beautiful beaches. We love this area and also the beautiful Sunshine Coast Hinterland which has loads of lovely walks, picnic areas etc.
We haven't eaten out all that much in the area, but every little place here tends to have a surf club for good cheap family eats and we have been told that Coolum Beach has excellent alfresco dining opportunities. I've only been to Peregian once, but there seemed to be a couple of options there (plus the ever present surf club!)
Shopping in the area is pretty good. You will have some decent supermarket options within a few K's of Peregian. Maroochydore has the Sunshine Plaza which is an absolutely beautiful shopping centre with excellent eating, riverside setting, and a good set of all the major stores. Also really huge supermarkets with - gasp - a British food section in the Coles (MMmmmmm Scottish biscuits and english mushy peas!).
Marcoola is a really quiet little place just a few K's from Peregian. Downside to some areas here is that they're under the flight path for Sunshine Coast airport. However, the beach is beautiful and we really like the feel of the place. We have a lovely beachfront apartment here and we are just so happy its not real!!
I think you'd be well placed to do a rekkie of the area. I think where you choose to settle might end up having a lot to do with how close to major amenities you want / need to be. Up this end is a little quieter and further out (Marcoola, Peregian, Coolum etc) whereas if you want to be in the heart of the action with loads of shopping and eating options you'd be best placed being closer in to Maroochydore. We're only about 10 to 15 mins from Maroochydore at this end tho... so really its great for proximity to facilities for us.
Phew!! I hope that helps and do let me know if I can find out anything / go take a quick peek at something on my way past for you as our house buying efforts take us all over the shop at the moment.
We have also been looking into the Peregian Springs area. We have two sons aged 10 & 13 and there are certainly a couple of private schools (St Andrews Anglian College & Nambour Christian College which look) great, especially sports wise (hope I have spelt these correctly.)
We have our visas and are hoping to move permanently in October...however, due to me having a huge wobble with regards to us making the correct decision...we are now thinking of going for a visit in a couple of weeks.
We are then hoping to travel up from brisbane and take a look at this area and schools in particular. Hopefully we can come back raring to go and advise you further.
Our other concern is the amount of work for my husband. He is a a/c and refrigeration mechanic and after looking at vacancies, they are mostly around central Brisbane.
Anyhoo....we will keep you posted. Have to say though, it does look rather lovely around this area.
Hi Guys
well we live about 10mins from Peregian Springs at a place called Coolum Beach.
It depends on what sort of housing you want, the average house in PS costs about $600k but go up to, and over $1m and there are a few schools to choose from both private and public. It is a short bike ride or car trip to the beach and they are currently building a new shopping centre which will have a Coles supermarket aswell as other shops.
It is sort of the middle between Coolum and Peregian beaches and slightly inland(a couple of klms) and it is a housing type estate built around a golf course. The whole thing is only a few years old and the houses are built on rather small blocks 650m sq and very close together. The houses themselves are normally large taking up most of the block, and although modern they dont really do it for us.
Work in the local area is mostly in Coolum or Noosa and is maily in the hospitality industry.
There is some light engineering but not a lot. The bigger work area (apart from Brisbane) is Maroochydore and Caloundra. However both of these are within 30/40mins drive.
Peregian Springs per se isnt much more than an estate of large modern homes, it is the surrounding areas which are great.
I personally have lived here in Qld since 82 and on the coast since 2001. I am a sheetmetalworker by trade and I earned my money in Brisbane before semi retiring to the Sunshine coast, it is by far better than the Gold Coast much more relaxing and quiet you will love it, just bring plenty of sunscreen.
Just a question (or 2) for Steve & Caroline.
Judging by your previous post, do you think Coolum or Peregian would be too quiet for teenagers? As stated before, we are coming for a reccie in a few weeks and plan to look along this part of the Sunshine Coast.
Our main concerns are being close to beach, rugby, golf & tennis clubs in order to keep our teenagers busy?? Oh yes, a skate park is essential....I know there is one in Coolum.
Maybe we would be better looking at Marroochydore or CaloundraHELP.
Pereigan Springs would be too quiet for your teens for sure. Cooloum has a soccer club and rugby too. Coolum is a very short walk to the beach where you can join the Nippers at the Coolum surf club, which is right next to the skate park! There is also a tennis club and barefoot bowls at the bowls club. Coolum is a popular beach town with heaps of coffee bars, bistros and resturants, oh, and a McDonalds! Its a hoilday destination for those who live in Brisbane. Coolum does have heaps to offer for all ages. It is, however, a very expensive place to live. Rents are ok, though. Caloundra, on the other hand, has heaps of beaches and sports clubs of all types. Should cover all tastes. It is a very large town and property is much more affordable. It does have a high percentage of retirees, but they keep themselves occupied!! Caloundra hosts a music festival every year and covers all tastes from rock, punk, blues, jazz etc. Its a good weekend! Hope this note helps you guys a little bit more.
We could recommend the steak sandwich at the surf club on coolum beach! Delicious!
We had a look at Peregian and the new developments - very nice although we thought it might be a bit too quiet for us - but it depends on what you want!

Hi Johnos
It would be great if you could tell me what you think when you do a rekkie trip. We will also do one when we get our visa, I think it will make it easier for the kids if they are prepared, wont be such a scary thing for them when we do the BIG move..
Have you looked on Peregian Springs website. I registered my details on it and the lady in the sales office emailed lots of info over to me and sent me a information pack by post with lots of stuff in it too. She was very helpful.
They are building a new smart state school on Peregian soon on the next stage of the development called The Ridges, the school is supposed to be completed end 2009. I have also looked at Coolum State High website and the school as good results and sounds really good, apparently the kids walk over a causeway to it from Peregian.
You possibly have looked at all this already, but if not and you have trouble finding the sites let me know.
Thank you so much for replying to this thread and It would be great to hear from you again on how you get on.
Regards
Lisa
