Current renting with pets situation

Hi, posted this here as I would like to get advice from people who are renting with pets in Queensland. I have read a couple of recent reports in tthe Brisbane Times and The Telegraph about a rise in the number of animals being handed in to the RSPCA because their owners cannot find rentals that will take pets. This concerns me as we are coming over with a year old King Charles Spaniel and a 9 year old cat and we would like to rent for 6 months at least.

I know newspaper reports tend to dramatise situations so I would like to know what the real situation is like if possible.

I have read some previous posts on this subject where agreeing to spray the house when you leave might just swing it but if it was that easy why are people reportedly finding it difficult.

This is a big deal to us as our pets are our family and there is absolutely no way they are not staying as part of our life. Just looking for a bit of reassurance, I guess.

Cheers

Nigel and Kimi

Some propertys do state no pets ,but only a small number.I dont think you will find it much harder to secure a rental than you would if you didnt have pets.It may be ideal to bring a pet reference if you can get one and you will be required to pet spray the property when you vacate ,but i really wouldnt worry too much ,most folk out here have animals.hope this helps a bit

Thanks Cal,

I did wonder why no-one on here has had any problems. Obviously not as bad as the papers make out.

Cheers

We found when we got here that by offering to pay an animal bond in addition to the normal bond that is required with rentals, we got some offers on rentals that before had been advertised as "no pets". Maybe worth trying when you arrive and find one you like.
Did'nt find a problem here getting a rental with animals. There is a group of petshops on Gold Coast where the owners have investment properties that the owners will only rent to pet owners. If you ain't got a pet , you cant rent one of her houses!!!!!!!!!!!!

I feel more positive already, great to here from someone who didn't have a problem. We are in a position to sort out 6 months rent up front and an additional bond if needed and I will certainly get pet references.

Really great to here about the pet shops doing something like that, I wonder if there is something like that on the sunshine coast. Will have to go googling.

Thanks everyone

Nigel
