Temporary visa

Hi, Need some help please. Looking to move to Oz from US, but are UK citizens. My wife is a nurse and it would appear we can do the temp visa route with sponsorship. Having been stung in the US with similar visas can anybody tells us the downsides of this visa, wtih regards to schools, movement in and out of the country, taxes, mortgages, credit cards, banks. Thanks for any help, I don't want to be in the same 2nd class status that we are in the US.
Sorry should also have said looking to move to Qld, probably Gold or Sunshine Coast

hi guys, welcome to pio! we are going to brisbane on a 457, in queensland the school fees are free but from what i have found out you have to pay for books etc, dont quote me on it but i think its about 30 dollars a year on a 457 visa its a bit harder to get a morgage you need to get permission from somebody( cant think what they are called at the moment) but do a search on here its bound to be on here somewhere. on a 457 you can come and go as you please. have a look on seek.com.au for jobs thats what we did. goodluck with everything, hope all goes well for you:)

457

we are going on a 457 and have 2 bank accounts with westpac all opened over the internet, they send staements evey 3 months and when we get ther we just have to validate then in the local branch.
You can buy a house but you wont get the government first time buyers allowance which i think is about $8000.
its a 4 yrs visa and you can apply for PR when ever you like.....

StamHi willjay

First time buyers grant is $7000 which u wont get on 457 visa & have to pay stamp duty which is approx 5% of the value of the house but appart from that life on a 457 is ok.Thats in Wa not sure about stamp duty in gold or sunshine coast might not have any. Im sure someone will be along to clarify it.

Thanks for the welcomes and info. I have found a thread on another forum (not sure if I can say what, when and where?!) but it gave a run down on 457 restrictions. I have 2 concerns now, first one is getting PR visa and how soon. We will probably rent for the first year or so anyway. Secondly my daughter will be going to Uni, after our first year and I guess we have to pay full international fees until we get PR visa. Can anybody confirm please.
Thanks

Will & Jayne
