Im beggining to think the bad luck follows you alliekate!!! bless you for getting it out the water i think id have done the same ,some people are just sick!Ive always said to stop cruelty to animals you have to conduct the same treatment on the human!!
Cal x
perhaps if the person who did that , told his kids the cat had just "gone missing", then had the evidence produced to the poor kids, might get the message. But like Jason says, how many people walked past that today ? And why were we the ones to find it and deal with it ? I'm like a magnet drawn to these things, I swear !!! Always been the same, always will.
I am Al's hubby, and felt compelled to write and let you all know the following (especially fat pom!) -
as you probably know, in the 2 weeks since our boy Syd tragically died (see quarantine thread in 'news' forum, Al has been pursuing a campaign to promote animal welfare and responsible pet ownership in Queensland. This has been done in Syd's name and in his memory.
Al does not often blow her own trumpet, and so I wanted to tell you all what she has achieved in this short space of time and how very, very proud I am of her.
Literally hundreds of emails have been written by her to everyone form the prime minister Kevin Rudd down and some remarkable results are starting to come through.
So far, Al has had a letter published in the Townsville Bulletin (the local paper) highlighting the plight of the RSPCA and abandoned animals, and also had an article printed in the same paper about cruelty to animals. In the Sunday Mail ( a statewide paper with a large circulation) she has been reponsible for having an article published highlighting the volume of healthy animal euthanasia forced on the RSPCA, (we know this article was down to her as it came just days after Al had contacted both the paper and the RSPCA press officer metioned - Michael Beatty - to highlight the high volume of euthanasia).
The best, however, is yet to come. Today the Townsville Bulletin sent round a reporter and photographer to speak with Al about the animal welfare issues in Queensland and particularly in the local region. They were very interested and are keen to assist in pursuing a campaign thenselves to highlight and educate on the ongoing problem. They will be publishing an article in tomorrows paper (complete with a picture of Al and Sophie!).
In addition, and perhaps most impotantly Al has pursuaded a local councillor David Cressafulli (who next to the mayor of Townsville and Thuringowa, is one of the most important and influential local government officials in the region), to attend a meeting with her and the local RSPCA inspector at the local shelter. This will include a full guided tour, and meeting with the staff and shelter manager. As if this was not good enough, Al has arranged that the Queensland RSPCA press officer and Chief inspector will fly up from Brisbane (over 1000 miles), to attend the meeting. Mr Cressafulli is a leading figure in the amalgamation of Townsville and Thuringowa councils (which is currently ongoing) and has been prompted by Al to see this as an opportunity for the council to work with the RSPCA to formulate a completely new strategy on animal management in the region. His nickname locally is the rottweiller, because when he gets his teeth into somemthing, he won't let go until it's sorted. The Townsville Bulletin have also stated they will be sending a reporter and photographer to cover the story.
To say I am proud of my wife and what she has achieved in these two short weeks is an understatement. I know also that Syd will be looking down on her too, with love and pride.
I wouldn't normally write such a personal post as this on a public forum, however I wanted you all to know what a special person she is and so that you too if you care about animal welfare, could be proud of Al and of her achievements.
Thanks for giving a soft old git like me a platform like this to speak!
Without the support of Jason I would have lost it completely by now, but to able to channel my grief into this crusade (however unwise and contraversial) has made a huge difference. For Sydney.
I know exactly how you feel Alliekate, as another dog lover I am APPALLED at the way some people treat their "family pets" over in Oz.
The worst example I can give is my "dear" sister in law (*!*&!*&!(^!(^!!!!) who has a little dog .... I typed lots more about the poor little thing .... but had to delete it. Suffice to say it is unloved and unkept and "lives" outside , but coz one of her kids DOES feed it nobody is interested

Well, it looks like Al's got quite a crusade underway! I do hope you will both keep us up to date on how things go. What a wonderful memorial to give Syd.
As for soft git's, it's just a shame we don't have more of them around!!
