General feel of state high schools
We all know that secondary schools vary so much - and some have better names than others.
I am having a real headache looking at all the school the annual reports - and quite often -
word of mouth is best.
So hear goes!! Does anyone know of the reputation/recommend good state high schools around rochedale, mount gravatt area.
basically - we are looking to locate about 30mins south of Brisbane.
Any school with good dance/media film IT but more importantly - Not a little **** bag school - sorry to be so blunt but you know the ones I mean!!
Any help appreciated

HI Lisa I can recomend Mcgregor State high school. It is based just behind the mount gravatt shopping centre of Garden city. It has an excellent performing arts department and film and TV. Principals name is Karyn Hart. Tel 0733473555

High schools
Thanks for that guys
Any inside information is great.... are they quite strict that you live in the catchment areas? Do they have school buses over there?
I sort of get the feeling that Runcorn High aint much cop - by looking at the annual report, would i be right. Should i be looking at a high percentage passing between OP1-15?
I will get the hang of this ..i am sure!!
Thanks - any more info will be welcome.

You have a better chance of being accepted in to a school if you are in the catchment area. I have personal knowledge of Mcgregor as both my children went there and were part of the performing arts program. Both were accepted ti uni and one getting early offer before op scores came out. Mcgregor also has a very high accademic standing.
School buses do opporate in some areas it's eaiser to sort out once you are here and settled. School resumes here on Jan 29th 08 and you will find someone at the school at least one week before for enrolments etc.
You are right in my oppinion about runcorn high.
If I can be of any further help just mail me

Macgregor high

I noticed that the school is massive in comparison to many over here. Currently has 1600 is that right? Were the class sizes high - or just lots of classes to compensate.
Do you know anything about Rochedale High? I am trying to see where we have more opportunity to rent, but am governed by schools. We will be staying at a holiday park in Rochedale initially. And all the other schools in the area are - Runcorn, Macgregor, Rochedale, SUnnybank, Mansfield and Mount Gravatt. Being local would you advise of any to steer clear from - that will cut down on rental areas which we need to be looking at.
Be great to hear from you.

I know the school is large in numbers but class sizes are 25-30. they do have a large no of ethnic groups but as I have said accademicly they are great. Rochdale is a smaller school still offering lots of opportunities, although I do believe that there performing arts is not so big. Mansfield is a very good school offering a great variety of subject again with a high accademic standing. I would steer clear of sunny bank and runcorn. When do ou arrive? I will be only to happy to meet with you and introduce you to the principal of Mcgregor.

Thank you for your advice - we land on 31 January. Basically, my husband has a job in Yatala, just south of Beenleigh. I am hoping to continue in my vein of work in Brisbane, Emergency Services Operator. So we thought it may be best to plump for a location in the middle of the 2. There's no guarantees I will get the work I would like but there may be more opportunities in Brisbane.
We are even considering going as far as Windaroo near Yatala. SO at the moment I am doing a bit of research into areas and schools. I know a place can look great in theory but living there can be totally different. It's only local knowledge which helps you make a good decision/or a big mistake! Thanks for the advice on Sunnybank, Runcorn. If I run this past you would you be able to help me out - this is no slight on anyone who lives in any of the areas it is just a feeling i get.
Would it be fair to say, that Logan, shailer park, beenleigh area not the most desirable areas in general (i do appreciate that everywhere has its good and bad bits so please dont take offence anyone).
How's your summer going - are you on melt down? We have hit a real cold snap over here and its bitter. (we are on the last dregs of our heating oil - and are trying to eek it out til we go! Big jumpers all round).
Thank you for your offer to introduce me to the Principal, if we are successful with finding a rental property within the area, i may very well take you up on it.
Look forward to more of your most welcome pointers

Hi Lisa
As you have said there are good and bad in all areas.Logan is one city that covers both.
Shailer park, Daisy Hill, Rochdale, Springwood Tannha Mera and Underwood, are all close to freeway access and are great areas to bring up kids. Beenleigh in parts is ok as is where I live in Trinder park. Rental property is going fast at the moment and is expensive for what we are used to.
As far as schools go I know it's a hard choice I had the same thing when we moved out.
But feel free to keep intouch and maybe I can help you more when you get here.
Were not quite in melt down but we are getting there and you will certainly feel it when you get here. cotton clothing is the way to go.
How old are your kids?
