We are coming to Brisbane in January on a 457 and I'm currently researching likely suburbs to rent in. I've used ourbrisbane a lot for compiling my spreadsheet (hey, I'm an accountant - they go with the territory!), but nothing beats good advice and experience!
We will need at least three beds (small child and plans for another!) and it can't be too far out of the city - since I will be based on Queen Street for working and generally cycle in.
Which suburbs do you guys recommend or on the other hand, which ones should we avoid?
Hoping for $350/week, but can go to $400 if a fantastic place - so no recommendations for riverside mansions!
Hi, not there yet but I too have a spreadsheet (and I am not an accountant). There are lots of threads on hear about different areas so it might be worth doing a search but from memory the following areas are worth looking into:
Mango Hill
North lakes
Redcliffe
Narangba
Cleveland
Can't think of any others - sorry

Hi guys,
I think you will be suprised by the cost of renting here, in the 6 months leading up to our arrival we were watching Gold Coast rentals and thought we could get something for $300ish we ended up going to $350 for a 3 bed duplex (bungalow) but have no air con
as we couldnt afford to up our budget any further. Im not sure of the costs more towards the city.
My Oh cousin working the city and lives in Robina there is a train directly to the city from there takes about 50 minutes.
Must admit I thought the same... a three bed within reasonable bike ride (whatever that is?) to the city will be a very good find for less than $400 per week but I guess they are there to found?
We got the where to live guide for greater brisbane, its a really great book with all of the areas and lots of useful information...you can get one from somewhere like amazon
I have been looking a lot on ourbrisbane.com for houses, and I don't think the $350 is unattainable. Yes I can go to $400, but would rather not!
From what you guys are saying the $350 is cheap - so does that mean that they're in dodgy areas? That's really what I'm after - an indication of which 'burbs are good and which are not.

We live in Mango Hill currently, which is lovely but no where near riding distance - I'm 55 mins into the city, driving to station, then 35 mins on train. If you're looking at riding in look at good suberbs such as Woolowin, Clayfield, Newmarket, Grange, Albion. These are all nice areas, but I don't know whether you'll be lucky enough to find a rental for $350. Good luck though.

Hey Guys
I live about 10kms outside the City at Sinnamon Park. 25-30 mins on train. Everywhere you have been told is North I am in South. You are going to be lucky to get anything half decent with 3 bedrooms within 10kms of City for less than $400. Property is mad here at the moment. Areas to avoid Ipswich, Goodna, Logan down South, not sure up North. What a place to live though!!

Im Sinnamon park too. Our area is hard to get properties in. They tend to come up few and far between as people tend to like Sinnamon Park. I have been here nearly three years now
