Hi,
I did a quick search for Project managers in Brisbane on careerone.com.au There were 144 results -
Job Search - Australian jobs - Job listing - Find a job - CareerOne
The engine didn't seem to like when I searched for job title = IT Project Manager, but certainly have a look though. I can't say definitively which financial institutions have moved there, apart from Suncorp, but I know a lot of the jobs advertised are for finance houses. I have been looking for ITIL jobs, so have seen plenty in this field. You will also find on the Yahoo careers website a min/max/mean salary chart for different professions in different areas of the country. This could give you a good guage of the value of PMs in the area. It is at

I suggest that you contact some of the agencies in the area and ask their opinion. Also, look for an agency that specialises or have particular sympathies for your discipline. I had an email from one (Final Five I think) who said that the IT market moved very fast and to not bother applying for jobs until I arrived.
Finally, you could try speaking with the Australian Computer Society in Brisbane. They should be able to give you an impartial view of the market there.
No idea about Gold Coast I'm afraid but there seems to be loads of nice areas that are family friendly in Brisbane. The
Brisbane Queensland Australia - suburbs - maps - accommodation - events - street and business directory - restaurants - ourbrisbane.com site gives a demographic breakdown of the Brisbane suburbs so can give a starting point to see if the areas are what you might be looking for. There are a lot of the suburbs that feel like villages in their own right and have a really nice, friendly and family-orientated feel to them - we spent 2 weeks driving around earlier this year.
Hope this helps
Susie
