Well say i`m easily swayed or not but i dont know what to do!
My wife has been offered a job in Townsville with a good relocation package. I have yet to find work there (gulp) but 90% of ppl are telling not to go there as its unfreindly and to far away to hot and humid, racist not a pretty place and is a bit hum drum. They are saying get to the sunshine coast like redcliffe and such where its a paradise and is part of civilisation. I thought no matter where you go in Australia its gonna be ok.
I know Townsville is well up North in the tropicsbut its not that remote surely and there must be work there for me in the mining sector! There has to lots for the kids to do just the same as on the Sunshine coast as well.
So why do i now feel is this the right place for us al of a sudden? I have to think of the 4 young kids i have also and will they accepted?
AAhhhhh! wish i could swing a magic wand and everything would be ok!
Ahwell cheers for reading this burst of whinging

I think at one point we have all wanted a magic wand, lol .You can only do what feels right for YOU.What other people think may be completely different to what you would think, personally ive never been to Townsville, hubby has and seems to think your description is along the right lines, but what some call hum drum may not be your hum drum.Yes its hot but these aussies have the air-con down to a tee.Redcliffe seemed a lovely area when we checked it out but not for us to live,as i said eveyone is different. You dont say what your occupations are but have you looked at job vacancies in other areas than Townsville for both of you?You may get a job in Redcliffe but the wife not, have a look at SEEK - Australia's no. 1 jobs, employment, career and recruitment site or AllJobs.com.au - Search for Jobs in Australia and see if theres areas near to where you'll think you like i know doing it this way helped us,,good luck and youll sort it in the end,,

hi , hope this helps but on this britishexpats.com you will find loads of folk you live in Townsville and love it , just tell them how you feel and they will answer your questions , and most of the expats have young kids
I like Townsville, I don't live there but have viisited often and it is a great base if you want to work in the mines. People who work in the mines up that way fly in/fly out , meaning you work a roster and while on your roster you live in singlepersons camp with all meals and when you are on your days off you fly back to Townsville. Money in the mines are brilliant, my husband earns $145,000.00 gross a year.
Straight-up I would highly recommend Townsville. I lived there for 4 years and loved everything about it. There is a very strong ex-pat community living there....met loads of scotish, english, welsh and irish (a lot of doctors move there for a while also). On top of that people from townsville are very open and welcoming...there is a bbq in somebody's back yard every second weekend which normally includes a swimming pool! Be clear on what you want .....it is a town with a population of about 150K well spread out........it has an outdated perception of being a bit redneck etc but look at any town in the uk or ireland that is away from the main cities and people will also paint it with a similar brush.
Ask yourself what you would like to see yourself or your family do in their spare time:
golfing, fishing, short trip to work each day etc........Ask yourself "what floats ure boat?" You probably have a good idea of the education system, health system etc in australia.
It does get hot in Townsville......so your level of comfort will be determined by your occupation...will you need to work outdoors or indoors airconditioned? My 2 cents would be to go for it. I believe it is an affordable, rapidly developing city close to magnetic island and barrier reef with the added benefit of a lot of sunshine. It's not the sunshine or gold coast but hey.....that means you don't have to battle with loads of tourists!!
I would re-settle there tomorrow.... but such is life!
Good look with your decision but don't say no just because somebody from Sydney / Melbourne wouldn't like to live there.
